The EU finally recognises the special needs of the islands! 🇪🇺🏝️
After years of EFA pressure, the EU has finally developed an islands strategy. Last week, the European Commission issued the first-ever strategy for EU islands, which recognises islands as special territories with conditions and needs different from those of the mainland.
The text presented is not perfect: it is still vague, incomplete, and not binding. However, we believe it is an important first step in the right direction. As the party of the European islands, EFA will continue working to push for concrete and measurable measures ✊

For decades, Corsica has asked for its rights to be respected and for its autonomy 🗣️

Now, in Paris, they debate whether Corsica should finally be granted a meaningful statute of autonomy and the right to govern aspects of their own affairs, to protect their own language and their own future.

Let us be clear: this is not a sudden demand, nor a radical one. Corsicans have pursued this path democratically for years, winning repeated electoral mandates with strong popular support. The call for autonomy is not the voice of a fringe: it is the settled will of the Corsican people.

To reject or dilute this statute would not simply be a political decision it would be a denial of democracy itself ‼️ The people have spoken, peacefully and consistently, through the ballot box. Ignoring that voice would only deepen disillusionment, particularly among younger generations who have chosen politics over conflict.

Autonomy to Corsica ✊🇪🇺

As the begins, it is a day of celebration across the globe ⚽️

But not all nations have the chance to take part not because they failed to qualify, but because they were never given the opportunity. Nations such as Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia, Brittany and others cannot wear their own colours, and are instead forced to represent states that do not fully represent them.

Sport has the power to unite people, overcome divisions and drive change. It is time for that change to happen ✊

As the party for self-determination, EFA calls for a future where all peoples can be seen, heard and represented on and off the field 💜

✊ Last weekend, in the event “Shared Sovereignty”, we shared strategies to build democracy from the local level with participation from Catalonia, Corsica, Euskal Herria, Galiza and Ireland.
