Today, on the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Artsakh, we stand with the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, who mark this day in exile.

On 2 September 1991, the people of Artsakh made a democratic choice to live in freedom, security and dignity, building democratic institutions and preserving their identity and heritage in their ancestral homeland.

Following Azerbaijan’s military offensive in 2023, more than 100,000 Armenians were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. Their displacement cannot erase their history, identity or fundamental rights.

The EU has a responsibility to ensure that peace is not built on permanent displacement. Europe must demand accountability, defend the rights of the displaced and support their right to a safe, dignified and collective return.

At EFA, we believe that the rights of peoples cannot simply disappear through forced displacement. Exile cannot be the final chapter of Artsakh.

The people of Artsakh must not be forgotten. Europe must act 🇪🇺✊

As the political season resumes in Brussels, we look back at EFA’s General Assembly in June, where we came together to shape our priorities for the months ahead.

Today, those priorities are more relevant than ever: defending democracy, empowering our peoples and regions, tackling the climate crisis, and building a fairer Europe.

June set the direction. Now, the work continues. 🇪🇺💚

🇮🇸 Iceland decides its own path 🗳️

This Saturday, the Icelandic people will exercise a fundamental right: to democratically decide the future of their country.

At the European Free Alliance, we believe that democracy begins with the right of peoples to determine their own future. That is why it is not for the EU, nor for any external force, to decide on behalf of the Icelandic people. That decision belongs to Icelanders.

Iceland is an essential part of Europe’s nordic dimension, with its own identity, language, culture and unique relationship with the North Atlantic. Its voice must be heard and respected.

Whatever the outcome, we celebrate a living democracy and the ability of a people to choose their own path.

Self-determination. Democracy. A Europe of peoples. 🇮🇸🇪🇺

🔎 Katharina Kley (23, Northern Schleswig) was elected EFAY president last June in Gandia, during the EFAY General Assembly 2026. As the former President of Junge SPitzen, the youth organization of Schleswigsche Partei (SP), she represents the German minority in Denmark, where she grew up.

On the occasion of International Youth Day, Katharina Kley shares with us some impressions on the EU, the main challenges for European youth, youth connection to the European project, the new EFAY Bureau, and other pressing political topics in the EU agenda.

Today we celebrate the National Day of Formentera and Eivissa with their own identity, language and culture, enriching Europe’s diversity.

At the European Free Alliance, we believe in a Europe that respects and values its peoples, giving a voice to communities and strengthening democracy from the ground up.

Formentera and Eivissa are a living example that diversity is our greatest strength 💛

Far-right forces across Europe continue to exploit fear and uncertainty to divide our societies.

At EFA, we reject the instrumentalisation of migration and the normalisation of hate. Migration must be addressed with responsibility, solidarity and respect for human dignity, not used as a political weapon.

A Europe of peoples is built on coexistence, rights and mutual understanding, not exclusion.

We are already seeing the consequences of this rhetoric on the ground including in places like Ceuta.

We choose unity over fear!

For Macedonians around the world, 2 August is a day of remembrance, marking the Uprising of 1903 and the historic struggle for freedom, national identity, and self-determination. The day brings together the Macedonian community in honouring its shared history, heritage, and aspirations.

🦁 On 11 July, the Flemish Nation marks the Battle of the Golden Spurs (1302) in Kortrijk, a defining moment when Flemish forces overcame the army of King Philip IV of France.

Warm wishes to the Flemish people on Flanders National Day, and to our friends at ✊

Europe’s islands and outermost regions are not on the margins they are at the heart of some of the continent’s most pressing challenges and opportunities.

From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, island communities face unique realities: geographical isolation, fragile ecosystems, and increasing pressure from mass tourism. While tourism can bring growth, it also raises serious concerns around sustainability, housing, local economies and the preservation of cultural identity.

For the European Free Alliance islands are a priority. Through the Islands Forum and our work in the European Parliament, we have worked to ensure that the voices of island communities are heard at EU level.

This effort has delivered results. For the first time, the European Commission has adopted a dedicated strategy for islands recognising their specific needs and the importance of tailored policies.

Because Europe must work for all its territories including those surrounded by water.
