✊🏼Serbia’s future is in Europe, but that future must be built on democracy, the rule of law, and respect for fundamental rights.
🇪🇺Last week, the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee adopted its annual report on Serbia, prepared by S&D rapporteur Tonino Picula. The report highlights the continued deterioration of democratic standards, political freedoms, and the rule of law, while calling for EU support to be redirected towards independent media, civil society, anti-corruption efforts, and democratic reforms.
🌹As Young European Socialists, we stand with the citizens, students, activists, journalists and unionists across Serbia who are demanding accountability, justice, and democratic change.
👉🏼EU enlargement remains one of the Union’s strongest political projects. But enlargement cannot be reduced to a geopolitical exercise - it must be driven by genuine reforms, democratic progress, and alignment with European values.
✊🏼The people of Serbia deserve a free, democratic, and socially just future within the European Union. Their aspirations for democracy, transparency, and dignity must be met with solidarity from progressives across Europe.
🇪🇺A democratic Serbia belongs in a democratic Europe.
