ONE WEEK OF SCHOOL IN THE ARCTIC ❄️🏫

One week down… and somehow, we already have a routine!

It definitely doesn’t feel like a holiday anymore 😂 The kids are at school, we’re both working, and yet… the stress level is SO much lower.

And the biggest surprise? The kids are coming home with stories. They’re much more open about their school days and actually have plenty to tell us!

They’ve both already had an outdoor school day this week. 🌿

James went to the beach, caught a crab… and obviously decided it needed to come home with him. Elias went hiking in the mountains, made a fire and grilled hot dogs. Because apparently, this is what school looks like here! 🔥🌭

We’re slowly settling into our new Arctic life and honestly, we’re loving it.

A little school update from our new life in Norway 🇳🇴

We’ve had so many questions about how school works here, so here’s a little practical insight into our experience so far.

School transport
The school bus picks the children up right outside our door and drops them off at home again after school. No school runs needed!

Elias – 14 years old
Elias has chosen his elective subjects and is also receiving extra Norwegian lessons to help him settle into the language. Some of his learning material is translated so he can follow the subjects while his Norwegian improves.

James – 7 years old
James has regular outdoor activity days, which means learning doesn’t always happen inside the classroom. 🏔️

Free after-school care
There is also free after-school care, which gives families some extra flexibility around school hours.

Flaskepost
Every week, James gets to write something for us and make a little drawing. We write a short reply back, and he takes it to school. They then use it as part of his learning and reading at school. ❤️

For us, it’s really nice to see that the focus isn’t only on academics, but also on language support, outdoor learning and making the transition into a new school environment as smooth as possible.

🇳🇴 This is our experience of school here in Norway and so far, we’re very impressed!

Today we discovered another little piece of Norway that we can’t wait to share with our future guests. 🌊🏔️

A beautiful, family-friendly coastal walk with incredible views, fresh Arctic air and that feeling of being completely surrounded by nature. 🤍

No extreme hike. No need to be an experienced adventurer. Just good shoes, a little curiosity and a family ready to explore. 🥾

One of our little adventures in Arctic Norway 🇳🇴✨

We headed out with the kids to explore Guvåghytta surrounded by mountains, wild nature and that feeling of being completely away from everything. 🏔️🌿

It’s not always about reaching the highest peak. Sometimes it’s simply about getting outside, exploring together and making memories along the way. 🤍
