Dear Friends, and Friends-of-friends,

Etablissement d’en face recently heard that they will probably no longer receive structural funding from the Flemish Ministry of Culture. Not only will this be an incomprehensible loss to Brussels and Belgian culture, but also to the wider international art world that this small, unique group of people have been tirelessly supporting, for almost 30 years, with over 300 exhibitions.

Naturally, the board of Établissement has appealed to the Ministry, with the necessary administration.

Independently, we would like to ask you to add your name (function and city) to this open letter to the Minister of Culture; and please/ most importantly: post/ share it with anyone you feel should do the same. If only – even without knowing Établissement – to object, in general, to institutionalisation and macro-management, over their exemplary personal, micro-engagement-that-mustn’t-be-called-management.

Feel free to ask them or us, but here, we prefer to spare you the details of a changing local, political and administrative climate. We are certain you feel similar tendencies, in your own lives. Let us hope that the minister may pay heed to the presence of these particular minds, and a very material stack of A4s on his desk.
