🎬 Congratulations to director Augustė Gerikaitė and the entire team behind Glitter Kiss!

The 6th FilmEU Summit Filmeu - European University, hosted by LUCA School of Arts LUCA School Of Arts in Brussels, brought together students, educators and film professionals from across Europe. As part of the summit, the 2nd FilmEU Emerging Filmmakers Film Festival took place across three venues in Brussels, culminating in the awards ceremony at LUCA's beautiful Film Faculty.

This year's festival showcased 25 outstanding student films, making the jury's task particularly challenging. The selected works represented an exceptionally high standard of emerging European cinema, leading to thoughtful discussions before the final decisions were made. It was an honour for the Lithuanian Cultural Attaché to the EU Adelė Dovydavičiūtė Adelė Dovydavičiūtė to serve as a member of the international jury.

We were also delighted to welcome the delegation from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre LMTA Lietuvos muzikos ir teatro akademija, who participated in the summit and the film festival, representing Lithuania among Europe's emerging filmmakers and film educators.

We are especially proud that the Audience Award went to the Lithuanian short film Glitter Kiss, directed by Augustė Gerikaitė Augustė Gerikaitė!

Congratulations also to the other award winners: 🥇 First Prize •Hot Flush• by Hana Hančinová 🥈 Second Prize •Prayer• by Sofia Geweiler 🥉 Third Prize •How to Listen to Fountains• by Eva Sajanová.

And what an incredible coincidence: on the very same evening, Augustė Gerikaitė received another major international recognition, winning the Young Director Award – Golden Prize in Cannes for Glitter Kiss. A remarkable double success and a proud moment for Lithuanian cinema.

🎬 FilmEU Film Festival 2026 is coming to Brussels!

23–25 June, the second edition of the FilmEU Film Festival Filmeu - European University will bring together some of the most exciting emerging filmmakers from across Europe.

Hosted by LUCA School of Arts LUCA School Of Arts as part of the FilmEU Summit 2026, the festival presents a curated programme of fiction, documentary, animation, experimental and dance films created by students from the FilmEU alliance and partner institutions.

Lithuania will be represented by two films from Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Lietuvos muzikos ir teatro akademija:

✨ Glitter Kiss by Augustė Gerikaitė Augustė Gerikaitė (19')
After discovering a brutally beaten drag queen in his apartment building, a homophobic man unexpectedly becomes his first responder and is forced to confront his own beliefs.

✨ Lūgnė by Tomas Bardauskas Tomas Bardauskas (16'43'')
A teenage girl's reality begins to unravel after her younger sister disappears, bringing long-buried truths to the surface.

An international jury will award the Best Film Award, Special Mentions, and the Audience Award, celebrating outstanding student filmmaking from across the FilmEU network.

Last Friday, Lithuanian sound artist Augustė Vickūnaitė .vic opened for the legendary British electronic music pioneers Cabaret Voltaire Cabaret Voltaire Band at AB AB - Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.

With her immersive and experimental sonic landscapes, Augustė immediately captured the audience’s attention. The performance was met with a warm response and, in a particularly memorable moment, Cabaret Voltaire’s frontman Stephen Mallinder took time during the band's own set to personally praise Augustė’s performance from the stage.

Celebrating 50 years since their first concert, Cabaret Voltaire returned to Brussels with a powerful retrospective of the work that helped shape generations of electronic, industrial and experimental music. Founded in Sheffield in the 1970s, the band remains one of the most influential names in the history of electronic sound. Their Belgian stop at AB was the only concert in the country on this anniversary tour.

It was a special evening of adventurous listening, connecting different generations of experimental music and proving that bold sonic exploration continues to resonate with audiences today.

Great news from Brussels! 🎶

Flagey flagey has just unveiled its 2026–2027 season, and we are delighted to share that a special collaboration between the Belgian Ensemble Fractales ensemble Fractales - Contemporary music ensemble and Lithuania’s LENsemble Vilnius will take place in the framework of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.

The concert, scheduled for 3 February 2027, will bring together musicians and composers from Belgium and Lithuania, featuring works by Vykintas Baltakas Vykintas Baltakas, Justina Repečkaitė Justina Repečkaitė, Andrius Maslekovas Andrius Maslekovas, Oren Boneh Oren Boneh and M. K. Čiurlionis, alongside new compositions created by students from the Brussels conservatories.

The project reflects a shared commitment to artistic exchange, collaboration and the presentation of contemporary music across borders.

A reflection on memory, time and transformation ✨

Last Monday, we opened IMPRINT, a solo exhibition by Lithuanian artist Marija Rinkevičiūtė Marija Rinkevičiūtė at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU in Brussels.

Working with fragile materials and subtle surfaces, the artist creates a meditative space where every crack and fold carries traces of the past. The works unfold slowly, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on how memory is shaped over time.

A glimpse behind the scenes of one of Brussels' most anticipated cultural openings!

Yestersay, representative of Architektūros fondas Architektūros fondas Martynas Germanavičius martynas_germ, together with the Lithuanian Cultural Attaché in Brussels Adelė Dovydavičiūtė Adelė Dovydavičiūtė, visited the construction site of KANAL Centre Pompidou Kanal and KANAL Architecture Kanal Architecture, which will soon open its doors in the former Citroën garage complex along the Brussels Canal.

The visit took place in the context of an emerging collaboration between KANAL Architecture and Architektūros fondas, who are exploring a joint project within the framework of Lithuania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.

We had the privilege of being guided by Nikolaus Hirsch, Artistic Director of KANAL Architecture, who shared insights into the architectural vision, transformation process and ambitions behind this remarkable project.

Originally built in the 1930s as a flagship Citroën showroom and garage, the iconic industrial building is currently undergoing a major transformation led by Atelier KANAL – a collaboration between Brussels-based noAarchitecten , Zurich's EM2N EM2N and London's Sergison Bates Architects Sergison Bates architects. Their award-winning design carefully preserves the building's historic character while creating a new cultural landmark for Brussels.

Walking through the vast spaces before their opening offered a rare opportunity to experience the scale and complexity of the project from within. The architecture is impressive not only in size, but also in the way the transformation balances heritage, openness and contemporary cultural ambitions.

The visit took place together with the members of the LINA community LINA – the European architecture platform connecting emerging architects, researchers, curators and cultural organisations across Europe, fostering collaboration and exchange across the field.

KANAL Centre Pompidou is set to open on 28 November 2026, and after this visit, anticipation for this new chapter in Brussels' cultural landscape is only growing.

What is EUNIC and why does it matter for cultural cooperation in Europe?

EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) is a global network bringing together European cultural institutes and organisations to foster international cultural relations. Rather than working separately, members join forces through local clusters that develop and implement collaborative cultural projects reflecting Europe's cultural diversity and shared values.

The Lithuanian Culture Institute is represented in the EUNIC Brussels Cluster .brussels by Adelė Dovydavičiūtė Lithuanian Cultural Attaché in Belgium. Together with colleagues from across Europe, we contribute to a wide range of joint initiatives that connect artists, audiences and cultural organisations across borders.

Among the projects Lithuania is currently involved in are Transpoesie , The Future of Living Festival and the EUNIC Brussels Film Festival .filmfestival – all examples of how cultural collaboration can create new opportunities for dialogue, exchange and artistic visibility.

This month's EUNIC Brussels meeting took place at De Krook Library in Ghent , bringing together representatives of European cultural institutions to exchange ideas, discuss ongoing projects and explore future collaborations.

Culture becomes stronger when we create it together. 🇪🇺🇱🇹

The programme also offered an opportunity to discover two remarkable examples of contemporary architecture and adaptive reuse in Ghent: De Krook Library, designed by RCR Arquitectes and Coussée & Goris Architecten , and the recently reopened Wintercircus , transformed by BARO Architectuur, SUMProject, Atelier Kempe Thill , aNNo Architecten and .

Some moments from the finissage weekend of Lapsarian 3.0 by Goda Palekaite at Kunsthal Extra City

The exhibition reflected on moments of collapse not as endings, but as thresholds from which new realities, narratives and futures can emerge.

The closing weekend brought two collective listening sessions of War Machines Based on the Dreams of the Enemies (2023), a performative sound installation by siblings Goda Palekaitė and Adomas Palekas

Revisiting ideas rooted in Goda's performances from 2018–2019, the work felt strikingly prescient today. Three years after its first presentation, its reflections on war, ideology, collective imagination and alternative futures resonate with even greater urgency, almost as if it had anticipated some of the realities we are now witnessing around the world.

What stayed with us most were the discussions that followed. Deep, thoughtful and remarkably engaged, they transformed the listening sessions into a shared space for reflection, where artists and audience members collectively unpacked the questions raised by the work.

A sincere thank you to Curator Darly Banneker .0 and Artistic Director Antony Hudek , and to the entire team at Kunsthal Extra City for making this exhibition possible and for creating space for ambitious artistic research and meaningful exchange.

Spanning decades, his images capture everyday life with extraordinary sensitivity, revealing moments of tenderness, resilience, humour and humanity.

The image featured here, Blind Pioneer (Aklas pionierius, 1962), is among Sutkus' most iconic works – a powerful portrait that continues to resonate across generations.

We warmly invite you to celebrate the closing of this exceptional exhibition and discover (or revisit) the timeless work of a master photographer.

A few days ago, we had the pleasure of visiting MAX , a shared artists’ space that has been home to 24 artists and countless conversations, experiments, and collaborations over the years.

The evening brought together the practices of Lithuanian artist Julija Česnulaitytė and Louise Cremers in a presentation that felt both beautiful and thought-provoking.

Working across multidisciplinary poetry, performance, text, and research, Julija guided us through themes of nostalgia, nationalism, ecosystems of fungi, and the complex ways these threads intertwine.

What made the presentation particularly touching was the way the two artistic practices echoed and expanded one another on multiple levels, creating unexpected connections and new readings. As Julija and Louise shared, the decision to present together initially emerged out of necessity – they were the last artists in the space who had not yet presented their work. Yet the result felt remarkably organic, as if the dialogue between their practices had always been there.

Sadly, MAX will soon be closing its doors. All the more reason to appreciate spaces like this: places where artists can take risks, share and create encounters that stay with you long after the evening ends.
