A UNICEF Programme Monitoring visit was conducted in Gilgit-Baltistan to review the implementation and progress of the Project “Strengthening the community-based gender responsive child protection systems to prevent child protection rights violations in Gilgit-Baltistan”. The visit focused on assessing project achievements, monitoring field activities, engaging with child protection committees, and stakeholders, and identifying opportunities to further strengthen child protection systems and gender-responsive interventions in the region.
The monitoring team comprised Mr. Sohail Ahmed, Programme Coordinator, UNICEF Islamabad Office, and Mr. Asghar Ali Shah, Finance Manager, UNICEF Islamabad Office. During the visit, the representatives reviewed project implementation, interacted with relevant government departments and partner organizations, and discussed progress, challenges, and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the project.
The visit reaffirmed UNICEF's commitment to supporting the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan and CSO’s in strengthening child protection mechanisms and promoting a safe, inclusive, and protective environment for children, particularly those who are vulnerable to gender-based violence and exploitation.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen women's leadership and promote inclusive governance, a two day capacity building training on "Voice in Leadership and Decision Making" was successfully conducted in Ghizer District from July 10, 2026 to July 11, 2026. The training brought together 50 women representing diverse social, economic, and professional backgrounds to enhance their leadership capacities, strengthen their confidence, and improve their participation in household, community, and institutional decision making processes. The three-month vocational skills training program, which commenced on 16 April 2026, was successfully completed on 15 July 2026.

On the final day of training, a written assessment was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and understanding gained by the trainees throughout the course.

This training equipped participants with practical and technical skills to enhance their employability and create better livelihood opportunities. We congratulate all trainees on successfully completing the program and wish them every success in their future careers.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP), in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), successfully organized an awareness session on Women's Rights and Legal Aid Entitlements at Pakora Village of Tehsil Ishkoman District Ghizer. Around 60 individuals actively participated in the session.
Women in our rural communities continue to face challenges in accessing justice due to limited legal awareness, social barriers, and inadequate information regarding available legal aid services. Increasing knowledge about legal rights is essential for empowering women to protect themselves against discrimination, violence, and denial of their lawful entitlements. In Ghizer district there are reports of suicidal attempts of women on weekly basis unfortunately.
Recognizing this need, GBRSP, with the support of PPAF, organized this awareness session to improve women’s understanding of legal rights and strengthen linkages between communities and institutions providing legal support.

GB Rural Support Programme (GBRSP) and School Education Department (SED) Conduct Orientation and Training for Student Internship Program (SIP) Interns

The Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP), and the School Education Department (SED), Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, has jointly organized a three-day Orientation-cum-Training Programme for the recently inducted Student Internship Programme (SIP) interns with science backgrounds.

The orientation and training are being conducted and scheduled in three cohorts to facilitate the participation of interns from all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

First Cohort: Interns from District Gilgit, District Ghizer, and District Nagar successfully completed the three-day orientation and training programme.
Second Cohort: Interns from District Hunza, District Diamer, and District Astore are scheduled to attend the orientation and training programme.
Third Cohort: Interns from all districts of the Baltistan Division will participate in the final cohort of the programme.

During the three-day training, the interns receive comprehensive orientation on the organizational policies, procedures, and code of conduct of the Student Internship Programme. They are also provided with practical sessions on modern teaching and learning techniques, classroom management, professional ethics, and other essential skills by experienced officials and resource persons from both GBRSP and the School Education Department.

The inaugural session was attended by the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, GBRSP, the Director, School Education Department, the General Manager, GBRSP, the Director EMIS, School Education Department, Deputy Directors of the School Education Department, the Manager HR & Administration, GBRSP, and the Project Coordinator, Student Internship Programme (SIP). The dignitaries welcomed the interns and highlighted the objectives of the programme, emphasizing the importance of quality education, professionalism, and the interns' role in strengthening the education sector across Gilgit-Baltistan.

Under the Student Internship Programme, a total of 127 science graduates have been selected and are being placed in government schools across all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan to support science education and enhance teaching capacity in public sector schools.

GBRSP supports out-of-school children with school kits under MACSI Project

Gilgit: The Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP), in collaboration with Kinder Not Hilfe (KNH), distributed school kits to out-of-school children under the Mother and Child Support Initiative (MACSI) to promote education and reduce child begging in Gilgit City.

The initiative is currently being implemented in five communities of the Jutial area of Gilgit City, including Hussainabad Colony, Diamar Colony, NATCO Colony, Chetta Colony, and Nawaz Sharif Colony.

The initiative supports vulnerable children through school enrolment, awareness on child rights and child protection, skills development for the parents, and the provision of school bags, uniforms, textbooks, and stationery.

Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director GBRSP, Dr. Ahsanullah Mir, said that every child deserves access to quality education and a safe environment to thrive.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize their full potential. Through the MACSI project, we are not only helping children return to school but also empowering families and communities to break the cycle of poverty and child begging” said the Executive Director.

He said that education is the most effective investment we can make for the future of Gilgit-Baltistan, and GBRSP remains committed to ensuring that no child is left behind.

General Manager GBRSP, Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed, said that education is a shared responsibility and highlighted the importance of partnerships in improving children's lives.
He appreciated KNH's support in creating opportunities for disadvantaged children to build a better future.

Earlier, Project Focal Person Mr. Azfar Ali briefed participants on the objectives and activities of the MACSI project, emphasizing its focus on child protection, education, and community engagement.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of school kits among enrolled children, reaffirming GBRSP and KNH's commitment to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed.
