This weekend in Ghent? There’s a lot going on. 👀✨

From jazz and shopping to flea markets, art and a car-free city centre – Ghent is packed with things to see and do this weekend.

🎷 Jazz in 't Park kicks off today in Voorhavenpark and runs until Sunday, 6 September.

🛍️ Feeling Shopping Weekend takes over the city on Saturday & Sunday, with Shop Sunday on 6 September – the perfect excuse for a little retail therapy.

🧺 Flea market lover? You’re in luck: there are no fewer than five flea markets taking place across Ghent this weekend.

🚲 Ghent Car-Free returns on Sunday, with plenty of activities around Zuidpark and beyond. Leave the car behind and discover the city at a slower pace.

🎨 On Sunday, 6 September, head to Portus Ganda for the Art Promenade, where art meets the Ghent waterfront.

🎹 And since Tuesday, 123-piano has been bringing unexpected piano moments to the city. Find a piano, take a seat and enjoy the music. 🎶

🎉 Mark your calendars: In exactly one month, on 3 October, Design Museum Gent reopens!

After a major renovation and expansion, Belgium's largest design museum is ready to welcome you back with 2,500 m² of exhibition space and more than 450 objects from a collection of 24,000 pieces.

The long-awaited new wing completes the museum, adding extra space for exhibitions, workshops, talks and events. Stroll through the new city room, enjoy the museum café with its inner garden, and get ready to be amazed by innovative collections and design presentations.

The reopening kicks off with a festive weekend full of music, performances, workshops and a design market in the streets around the museum.

A new month has begun, and September in Ghent is packed with music, art, heritage and plenty of reasons to get out and explore. From free jazz and open-air pianos to car-free streets and unique historic buildings, there’s something happening all month long!

🌙 Late Thursday at the Museums (3 September)

🎹 123 Piano (2 September – 2 October)

On Sunday 13 September, Ghent opens the doors to its heritage for Open Monuments Day (Open Monumentendag) — a unique opportunity to discover some of the city’s most fascinating buildings, stories and hidden gems. 🏛️

This year’s theme is “In Good Hands”, putting the people who care for, preserve and pass on our heritage in the spotlight.

From guided tours of the historic Campo Santo and Ghent’s beguinages to a visit to the Havenhuis, the St Bavo's House and the iconic Book Tower — there’s plenty to discover. You can also step inside the Winter Circus, explore the Minard Theatre, visit the Great Butchers’ Hall or take a guided tour of St Michael’s Church and St James’ Church. And at De Bijloke, discover the fascinating Anatomical Theatre.

Many locations are free to visit, while some activities require advance registration. So whether you’re a long-time Ghent local or visiting the city for the first time, this is the perfect chance to see Ghent’s heritage from a whole new perspective.
