💜Volt welcomes Iceland to the EU 🗳️

Tomorrow, the Icelandic referendum will be held to decide whether to restart the negotiations for joining the EU from, reopening the closed chapters in 2013.

On 17 July 2009, Iceland’s application for EU membership was submitted to the Council of the European Union and on February 24, 2010, the Commission delivered positive advice and recommended the opening of negotiations for EU accession, which officially started in June of the same year.

In 2013, due to a change in government, from a social-democratic party to a centre-right alliance whose focus lay in fear of losing fishing rights, accession talks were interrupted. Following the recent geopolitical developments, Iceland decided to reopen the talks in May 2026.

Volt encourages Icelanders to vote European and secure a strong and safe future together! 💪

In a few weeks, the region of Saxony-Anhalt is electing its new regional parliament alongside Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Berlin. One thing seems clear from looking at the polls: moderate parties have failed the population. They seem to no longer provide answers to the issues citizens care about.

We currently see national politics reaching its limits. Not only in Germany. In a fast-changing world, we have to choose between integration or isolation. But while your household populist parties push for fear and isolation, moderate parties cling to their power, trying to maintain the status quo instead of providing a vision and concrete steps towards more integration.

What could they propose instead?
- An integrated and accessible healthcare system that attracts foreign staff to fill the gaps – especially in rural areas
- A vision and concrete steps to transition our economy and industries to the 21st century – a real European single market, a discussion on lessons learned from the unification and a real perspective for a region in the heart of Europe
- An educational system that teaches flexibility and allows mobility, because keeping a job for your whole life in one place is no longer possible anywhere

All of these require understanding Saxony-Anhalt as a region in Europe, not just in Germany. It requires parties that listen to the preoccupations of citizens while seeking solutions that look beyond the region’s and Germany’s borders. It requires real European parties.

We’re living in turbulent times, and parties running in these elections should be honest that there are no easy solutions. If isolation is perceived as an alternative, so can integration. Volt is the alternative as the first true European party, one that could provide new impulses and a voice in the regional council that Saxony-Anhalt so desperately needs.

🇧🇪🔥 Bijna 3.000 hectare is al afgebrand in de Hoge Venen.

Geconfronteerd met de omvang van deze brand, een enorme dank aan de brandweer, de landbouwers, de boswachters, de Civiele Bescherming en de vele vrijwilligers die zich onvermoeibaar hebben ingezet.

Ook onze buurlanden en EU willen we bedanken voor het sturen van versterking.

Deze ramp herinnert ons er op pijnlijke wijze aan dat ook bij ons het risico op bosbranden toeneemt. Ze toont ook de gevolgen van de verzwakking van onze capaciteit om in noodsituaties in te grijpen en van het gebrek aan voldoende doortastende actie tegen de klimaatverandering.

We moeten hier lessen uit trekken: beter voorkomen, onze interventiecapaciteit versterken, de klimaattransitie versnellen en onze afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen verminderen.

🇧🇪🔥 Beinahe 3.000 Hektar sind im Hohen Venn bereits verbrannt.

Angesichts des Ausmaßes dieses Waldbrandes gilt unser größter Dank den Feuerwehrleuten, LandwirtInnen, FörsterInnen, dem Katastrophenschutz und den zahlreichen Freiwilligen, die unermüdlich gegen die Flammen gekämpft haben.

Ebenfalls danken möchten wir unseren Nachbarländern und der Europäischen Union für die entsandte Verstärkung.

Belgien muss daraus lernen: durch verbesserte Prävention, bessere Vorsorge und Stärkung unserer Reaktionsfähigkeit, anstatt einfach auf die nächste Katastrophe zu warten.

Und statt den Klimaschutz zu bremsen, müssen wir vielmehr die Transformation beschleunigen und uns aus unserer Abhängigkeit von fossilen Energien lösen.

🇧🇪🔥 Nearly 3,000 hectares have already burned in the High Fens.

Faced with the scale of this fire, a huge thank you to the firefighters, farmers, forestry workers, Civil Protection teams and the many volunteers who have been working tirelessly.

Thank you also to our neighbouring countries and to EU for sending reinforcements.

This disaster is a stark reminder that the risk of wildfires is increasing here in Belgium. It also shows the consequences of weakening our emergency response capacities and failing to act decisively on climate change.

We must learn the lessons: strengthening prevention and emergency response, accelerating the climate transition and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

🇧🇪 🔥 Près de 3 000 hectares ont déjà brûlé dans les Hautes Fagnes.

Face à l’ampleur de cet incendie, un immense merci aux pompiers, aux agriculteurs, aux agents forestiers, à la Protection civile et aux nombreux volontaires mobilisés sans relâche.

Merci également à nos pays voisins et à l’UE pour l’envoi de renforts.

Cette catastrophe nous rappelle brutalement que le risque d’incendie augmente aussi chez nous. Elle montre également les conséquences de l’affaiblissement de nos capacités d’intervention d’urgence et de l’absence d’action suffisamment déterminée face au changement climatique.

Nous devons en tirer les leçons : mieux prévenir, renforcer nos capacités d’intervention, accélérer la transition climatique et réduire notre dépendance aux énergies fossiles.

Talking about suspending the Schengen Area or about a massive influx of migrants amounted to an instrumentalization disconnected from the situation in Ceuta.

The crisis remained confined to the enclave, and almost all those who arrived there were returned to Morocco within a matter of hours. Yet some European political leaders chose identity-driven rhetoric over a response grounded in facts.

But Ceuta reveals a broader problem: Europe cannot face the crises of the 21st century in a fragmented way. Migration pressures, Russian threats, interference and tensions over Greenland transcend national borders and require a common European response.

🇪🇺 In the face of crises, European unity is not an option. It is our best protection.

Parler de la suspension de l’espace Schengen ou d’un afflux massif de migrants relevait d’une instrumentalisation déconnectée de la situation à Ceuta.

La crise y est restée circonscrite et la quasi-totalité des personnes arrivées sur place a été renvoyée au Maroc en quelques heures. Pourtant, certains responsables politiques européens ont préféré la surenchère identitaire à une réponse fondée sur les faits.

Mais Ceuta révèle un problème plus large : l’Europe ne peut pas affronter les crises du XXIᵉ siècle en ordre dispersé. Pressions migratoires, menaces russes, ingérences et tensions autour du Groenland : ces défis dépassent les frontières nationales et exigent une réponse européenne commune.

🇪🇺 Face aux crises, l’unité européenne n’est pas une option. C’est notre meilleure protection.

📦 What does the Packaging and Package Waste Regulation do?

If you're a ( ) selling to consumers in other EU member states, buckle up, because you soon have to:
👉🏻 register in each Member State where you make packaged products available
👉🏻 pay an authorized representative for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in each Member State

Example: you run a store and someone from Hungary orders a book. After August 12th, this means 1333€ for an authorized representative for EPR, 450€ for a quarterly report to authorities for the carton box your book was shipped in and - since it's the only shipment and less than 1kg of packaging - another 0,44€/kg for waste disposal for roughly 1800€ to ship one book to Hungary - https://www.blaetter.de/ausgabe/2026/juli/eu-verpackungsverordnung-angriff-auf-die-kleinunternehmen

🪦 The EU Single Market for small business is dead.

Keep in mind:
👉🏻 99.8% or 34 million of EU businesses are SME. Nobody asked them?
👉🏻 The EU has a Small Business Act pitching to "Think Small Business First" when drafting regulation. Practiced what you preach?
👉🏻 The Commission pushes its Simplification Omnibus with a 35% reduction in overhead for SMEs. Sell me a horse.

Why this is a regulation that countries can modify? Why no European authority? Member states insisted to keep national systems? Fine, there is the EUIPO for filing trademarks across 27 member states. It exists in parallel to national authorities. It saves you a fortune.

Why not copy it and have:
💡 An EU platform, member states are obligated to transmit data if they are so keen to keep national systems
💡 Until this platform runs, business as usual
💡 Once it runs, SMEs can file nationally or on the EU platform - with a threshold per country before having to file
