This is the official page of the 15th Wing Air Transport which is located at the Melsbroek airbase (ICAO: EBMB), a part of Brussels Airport.

Maintained by the Wings' Public Relations section. The 15th Wing Air Transport is the only air transport unit of the Belgian Air Force. From our homebase at the Melsbroek military airbase, a part of Brussels national airport, we operate all over the globe. The wing holds two squadrons that transport passengers as well as cargo using a variety of aircraft. The 20th Squadron provides tactical airlif

t with its fleet of five legendary LOCKHEED C-130H HERCULES cargoplanes. This incredible versatile aircraft makes it possible to have various kinds of cargo delivered at the most remote airfields in the worst landing conditions, such as conflict areas, for 49 years and counting. The 21th Squadron is specialised in strategic passenger transport and (V)VIP-transport. The unit has two DASSAULT FALCON 7X long-range business jets. Today, our movements are coordinated by the EUROPEAN AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND. Together with The Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Germany, we provide airlift for whoever needs it. The 15th Wing's motto is TENACITY, which means; 'the quality or fact of being able to grip something firmly / persistence, determination, perseverance' A Sioux Indian chief completes the emblem.

On this month in… 🛩️

April was a month that saw the arrival of various aircraft within the 15th Wing and more specifically within the 21st Squadron 🔴

April 1947: 2 airplanes! The Airspeed Oxford, a multi-engine communication aircraft and the Percival Proctor for the pilot formation and for communications

April 2014: The Airbus A321-231, a twin engined transport aircraft with a capacity of 152 seat

April 2020: The arrival of the Falcon 7X, a long range business jet actually operated by 🛩️

4 differents aircrafts in 3 differents period of our history with a same objective: accomply our mission and serve our nation 🇧🇪

This day was a time to remember all those who fell in service to the nation.

April 7th is the annual day of remembrance for veterans who have fallen in the line of duty since 1945 during peacekeeping missions.

The choice of April 7th is not accidental: it was on this tragic day in 1994 that ten Belgians commandos were murdered. Since 1998, this date has become a moment of remembrance.

Last week, the Melsbroek Air Base hosted the departure of his majesty the King in BRUMIL for the state visit to Norway. 👑

As protocol dictates, a procession was present with the participation of each Force of .ladefense :

The personnel of formed the honor guard 🫡

For the return of the King, the honor guard with members of our personnel was once again formed to welcome our sovereign with honors.

Another type of mission of crucial importance carried out by the 15th Wing 💪🔥

For the past two weeks, Melsbroek Air Base has hosted training in partnership with our friends from . 💪

But what exactly are AMPT ?
Air Mobile Protection Team are a specialized unit of the tasked with protecting aircraft, crews, and cargo in high-risk areas. These soldiers ensure safety both on board and on the ground during landings in hostile environments.

Their missions are varied: Protection, security, active defense and interoperability. 🔥

A special unit for special task and another great collaboration between two air base 👌
