𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐤 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝟑𝟎 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels, together with the Embassies of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, commemorated the Vesak Day celebration on 30 June 2026 at the UN House in Brussels. The event was co-hosted by the eight Embassies in collaboration with the United Nations Office in Brussels and the Buddhist Union of Belgium.

The event was attended by Mr. Wouter Beke, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (DASE); Mr. Șerban-Dimitrie Sturdza, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South Asia (DSAS); Mr. Pierre Cartuyvels, Chief of Protocol at the Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, and other officials including members from the Buddhist Union of Belgium.

The UNGA Resolution 54/115 dated 8 February 2000 recognizes the Vesak Day as most sacred to Buddhists commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Lord Buddha.

The German-Bhutan Himalaya Society (DBHG) celebrated its Annual Bhutan Day in Bonn on 30 May 2026, an occasion that also marked DBHG’s 40th Anniversary. Since its establishment in 1986, DBHG has supported a wide range of grassroots initiatives in education, environmental conservation, cultural exchange, and heritage preservation, making meaningful contributions to the local communities across Bhutan.

On the special occasion, H.E. Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade delivered a virtual keynote address, congratulating the Society and highlighting its steadfast commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Germany.

The event was attended by more than seventy participants, including Kutshab, Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels, Dasho Karma Ura, President, Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies, Society Members, Bhutanese community in Germany and officials from the Embassy amongst others.

The Annual Bhutan Day event in Bonn provided an opportunity to reflect on the DBHG’s journey and achievements, while conveying the Royal Government’s profound appreciation for its longstanding efforts in promoting Bhutan and GNH across Europe, and fostering lasting goodwill and friendship between the two countries over the last four decades.

RBE Brussels joins the nation in extending our warmest felicitations on the joyous occasion of the 6th Birth Anniversary of His Royal Highness Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck.

1. The security situation in the GCC countries continues to remain fluid and uncertain, warranting continued vigilance and close attention to advisories.

2. Bhutanese residing in the GCC region are advised to exercise utmost caution, remain vigilant and follow advisories and instructions issued by the local authorities.

3. In addition, the following measures are advised:
- Remain in regular contact with the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Kuwait.
- Ensure passports and other important documents are readily accessible
- Avoid unnecessary travel/movements that may expose yourself to unnecessary risks
- Always comply with safety advisories issued by the local authorities
- Monitor developments through reliable official sources only

4. Bhutanese nationals may consider voluntary return to Bhutan. The Royal Bhutanese Embassy, Kuwait, can assist in identifying available flight and route options.
