⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ATHLETES, TEAMS AND NATIONAL FEDERATIONS
The European Armwrestling Federation (EAF) wishes to inform athletes, teams and national federations that the event promoted as the “IFA European Armwrestling Championship 2026” in Codlea, Romania is not recognized within the official EAF/WAF armwrestling structure.
According to Romanian Sports Law and the official position of the Romanian National Agency for Sport (ANS), no official European or World Championship may be organized in Romania without the authorization of the National Agency for Sport (ANS), the approval of the competent Romanian authorities, and the authorization of the Romanian Federation of Skandenberg-Armwrestling (FRSKA), the sole nationally recognized governing body for the sport.
FRSKA, member of EAF and World Armwrestling Federation WAF has not authorized this event.
Athletes, teams and national federations should be aware that the relevant Romanian authorities have been officially informed regarding the legal status of this competition. Any travel, accommodation or participation arrangements are therefore made entirely at the participants’ own responsibility.
Athletes should also be aware that, while anti-doping testing may be conducted, there is no recognized international armwrestling authority able to process and enforce anti-doping sanctions for international athletes participating in this event. Therefore, a positive test result may not result in an internationally recognized suspension.
For reference, the official 2026 European Armwrestling & Para-Armwrestling Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary, bringing together 1,207 athletes from 34 countries.
The European Armwrestling Federation (EAF) is the continental federation of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF). WAF is part of the internationally recognized sport governance system through its membership in AIMS (Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport), is WADA Code compliant, is recognized within the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) framework for Para-Armwrestling, and is represented within the International University Sports Federation (FISU) structure.
The EAF strongly encourages all athletes, teams and federations to verify the official recognition and status of international events before making travel or financial commitments.
Not all events using the title “European Championship” are officially recognized European Championships.
