Around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, police and other first responders were dispatched to a report of a serious two vehicle collision involving a motor car and a motorcycle at the junction of Cobb’s Hill Road and Ord Road, Paget.

Initial information suggests that the female driver of the motor car was travelling along Cobb’s Hill Road towards Ord Road when she collided with a motorcycle travelling on Ord Road.

The motorcycle rider, a male, sustained injuries believed to be serious. The female driver of the car and her two female passengers were also transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.

Traffic diversions are currently in place at Ord Road, Cobb’s Hill Road, and the Railway Trail while police work to process the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes until the scene has been cleared.

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the island has now suffered its 11th road fatality of 2026.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 25, Police and Emergency Medical Services personnel, attended a single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle, near the junction of Church Road and South Road, Southampton.

The male motorcycle rider was found lying on the roadway. He was provided medical attention at the collision scene and subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII memorial Hospital for further treatment of his injuries.

Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on August 1.

An investigation was commenced shortly after the collision took place and remains ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has information relating to it, is asked to contact Police Constable, Jason Ming, of the Roads Policing Unit by calling, 247-1309, 717-0862, or via email at, [email protected].

The Bermuda Police Service is renewing its appeal for information regarding the murder of Jahkobi Smith, which occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m., on Saturday, July 29, 2017.

Mr. Smith was fatally stabbed following an altercation at the West End Sailboat Club, in Sandys Parish. At the time, a wake was being held in memory of the late Jahcari Francis.

As we mark the ninth anniversary of Mr. Smith’s death, the Bermuda Police Service is once again appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in bringing those responsible to justice and providing long-awaited closure to his family.

Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was present at the West End Sailboat Club, or in the surrounding area, at the time of the incident. Even the smallest detail, which may have seemed insignificant at the time, could prove crucial in advancing this investigation.

We are also appealing to anyone who has information regarding the movements of Jahkobi Smith prior to the incident to contact Acting Detective Chief Inspector Nidol Barker of the Serious Crime Unit on 717-2176 or 247-1015, or via email at [email protected].

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bermuda, by calling, 800-8477 or, submitting a report online at www.crimestoppers.bm. Information may also be submitted through the Bermuda Police Service reporting portal at portal.police.bm, or by speaking with any police officer you know or trust.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Nidol Barker said: “There are individuals within our community with knowledge of who is responsible for the murder of Jahkobi Smith. We urge you to come forward and speak with investigators. If you have concerns about your identity, confidential and anonymous reporting options are available through Crime Stoppers Bermuda.”

DCI Barker reminded: “With the continued support of the public, the Bermuda Police Service has successfully solved a number of serious crimes and has significantly advanced several historical murder investigations. We are confident that someone has information that can assist with this investigation.”

If you know anything about the murder of Jahkobi Smith, no matter how insignificant you believe it may be, we urge you to contact us. Your information could make the difference in finally delivering justice for Mr. Smith and his family.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, police received a report of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision involving a livery cycle, near the junction of St. Anne’s Road and St. Anne’s Drive, Southampton.

Upon arrival, it was ascertained by officers that the livery cycle was traveling west along St. Anne’s Road, when the 16-year old male cycle rider lost control of the vehicle and fell onto the roadway.

He sustained suspected head injuries and was reportedly in and out of consciousness. His male pillion passenger, also a 16-year-old male, sustained minor bruises about the body.

It was confirmed that both males, who are visitors to the island, were not wearing helmets at the time of the collision.

They were attended to at the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel and subsequently transported by ambulance, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, for further treatment of their injuries.

The roadway was closed to vehicular traffic for approximately two hours, while the collision scene was forensically processed.

An investigation into this incident has now commenced and anyone with information is asked to call 211.

With several large events including, Bacchanal Run, The Wayne Wonder Concert and Non-mariners expected to attract significant attendance over the remainder of the weekend, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) reminds members of the public to make responsible choices and help ensure these events are safe and enjoyable.

The BPS will maintain a robust, high-visibility presence at and around these gatherings.

Officers will continue with proactive patrols, roadside sobriety stops (RSS), and stop-and-search operations. These measures are intended to prevent persons from carrying offensive weapons, controlled drugs and other prohibited items in public and into planned events, ensuring the safety and security of all those in attendance.

These ongoing police actions have resulted in a number of knives being recovered and persons arrested. Carrying knives or other weapons to entertainment events, places patrons, event staff, first responders, and the wider community at unnecessary risk.

Anyone found in possession of prohibited weapons, involved in criminal activity or antisocial behaviour, should expect to be dealt with swiftly and in accordance with the law.

Leave all weapons at home.
Never drink and drive. Plan a safe way home before attending any event.
Report suspicious activity or criminal behaviour to police.
Respect event staff, security personnel, and fellow patrons.
Enjoy yourself responsibly.

Acting Chief Inspector Nidol Barker, leading the BPS Weekend Policing Plan, stated: “Our officers will be highly visible throughout the weekend with one clear objective. That is, to keep our community safe. We want everyone attending these events to enjoy themselves responsibly and return home safely. We ask the public to work with us by making sensible decisions, leaving weapons at home, and respecting the law. Those who choose to carry knives or engage in criminal behaviour should expect a swift and decisive police response.”
