Bermuda Ocean Explorers

Bermuda Ocean Explorers Each organization and agency have their own training curriculum, requirements and methodology but there is always a common denominator: Diving!

Our mission is to be an all-inclusive conduit, helping connect divers for the love of diving, regardless of training standard or other affiliation and create a synergy between existing organizations that promote ocean conservation, education and research. Bermuda Ocean Explorers is not a dive center or dive club and is not affiliated with any diving organization although we will strive to work wit

h and promote them all! Most North American divers usually begin their adventure with PADI or SSI. UK and European divers begin with BSAC or CMAS. Further organizations include GUE, IANTD, TDI and others. Bermuda have five PADI Dive Centers and one BSAC Dive Club, 280 square miles of fantastic reef and hundreds of wrecks.

The 2018 Bermuda End to End is on Saturday and it marks the 6th year in a row that we will be hanging out at the Ariel Sands Water Stop! Guardians of the Reef (formerly Ocean Explorers) is not a Bermuda Registered Charity but we continue to be Patron Sponsors and partner with a RC every year. This year we're excited to have a team from the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Bermuda helping out. See you then!

The Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust is a registered charity ( #558) whose efforts are coordinated by a volunteer committee. All pledges raised by our participants are distributed amongst that year’s selected charities.

The local media released findings from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR] last week about the fish die-off that has been occurring this month. All of the affected fish that were examined were found to have their gills heavily infested with a mobile, single-celled parasites that resemble Brooklynella. Read more by following the link below.

Divers are finding fish dead or dying on the ocean floor or floating on the surface and beach goers are seeing them washing up on the sand and rocks. This die-off is very real and very scary. A visit to the small bay at the end of Ocean Avenue was real, scary and sad. First dead fish was spotted on the rocks long before reaching the bay. What was found in the bay is what you see in the photographs. Marine debris and dead fish everywhere.

Stand by for a call to action! We might not be able to help the fish battle this fill parasite but we can certainly help with the plastic and marine debris.
