ONCA is an NGO that has been created to direct and promote wellbeing, conservation and preservation of animals by creating a center of custody and management for the rehabilitation of wildlife in the Bolivian Amazon. In late 2011 we crystallized the idea to create something different that not only offered a conservation service and rehabilitation of wildlife, but to work in coordination with commu

nities originating in the area, because they are carriers of ancient wisdom that remain unpolluted by the technology, consumerism and materialism of Western society. They have managed to live together with the environment and develop a quintessential utopia. ONCA has been created to direct and promote wellbeing, conservation and preservation of animals by creating a Center of custody and management for the rehabilitation of wildlife in the Bolivian Amazon. In the rescue center at the moment we focus on the rehabilitation program of the primates.

This video captures an important moment in the soft release of an ocelot rehabilitated by ONCA in the Bolivian Amazon. The ocelot came to ONCA as an orphaned baby after extreme floods and grew into an independent, beautiful wild cat 🐯💚

He has now been free in the rainforest for almost a month. The first phase was challenging, but after adjusting the post-release strategy and strengthening coordination with the local community, things are going well.

This is a significant milestone for wildlife conservation in Bolivia. ONCA has described this as Bolivia’s first-ever GPS-collared ocelot, allowing post-release monitoring that can help improve future releases and reduce the risk of conflict.

But responsible release does not end when the gate opens. It requires field monitoring, transport, local coordination, and the capacity to respond when needed. Support for this stage can make a real difference.

🆘 URGENT: Help Us Raise $40,000 to Save Bolivia’s Wildlife and Support ONCA! 🆘
At ONCA Wildlife Rescue Center, we rescue, rehabilitate, and release Bolivia’s wildlife. To continue our work, we need $40,000 to fund key projects and ensure a sustainable future.

🦁 A Bigger Home for Khali the Jaguar
Khali can’t be sent to a wildlife project in Argentina due to restrictions. Until we prove we can release smaller cats like Choti the ocelot and Cefira the margay, Khali will stay with us. We need to expand her enclosure from 12x12m to 20x20m to improve her well-being.

🐾 Releasing Choti the Ocelot
After years of rehabilitation, Choti is ready for release. Using camera traps, we confirmed prey availability, potential mates, and minimal conflict with other males at the release site. To track his progress, we need Bolivia’s first-ever GPS collar for an ocelot and panels for a possible soft-release cage.

🐒 New Spider Monkey Area
We’ve built part of a forest enclosure for spider monkeys and need $1,000 to finish the second cage and storage space to complete their rehab.

🌿 Why We Need Your Help
In 12 years, ONCA has restored wildlife where once there was none. Today, capuchin and squirrel monkeys roam freely, and spider monkeys are close to release. But with rising costs, our monthly expenses have reached $4,000, and volunteers are scarce.

We’ve worked with local staff like Mario from the Takana community and Mijail and Damaris, our first Bolivian employees. To keep ONCA running, we need $15,500 from this fundraiser to cover 4 months of operations and more monthly donors to sustain us long-term.

At ONCA, we don’t charge high fees like many rescue centers. Our goal is to make wildlife rehab accessible, creating a diverse and intercultural family.

ONCA Wildlife Rescue JUNTO A LA COMUNIDAD DE VILLA ALCIRA SE ENCUENTRA EN EXTREMA EMERGENCIA QUE LOS INCENDIOS LLEGUEN A LA COMUNIDAD Y AL REFUGIO DE ANIMALES SILVESTRES VÍCTIMAS DE TRÁFICO.

La Asamblea por los Bosques y la Vida - Bolivia se encuentra en coordinación permanente y certifica que el QR es de la comunidad y que toda donación servirá de manera directa para evitar la tragedia. Cada minuto cuenta. En este momento se debe trabajar en generar una barrera de cortafuegos muy larga.

Por favor pedimos a la población donar lo que puedan. Cada boliviano ayudará a que la gente pueda seguir combatiendo los fuegos, seguir controlando que no se reactiven o pasen, conseguir más apoyo de voluntarios y bomberos, alimentarse porque el trabajo es duro y porque la gente no esta pudiendo trabajar, tambiénservirá a las mujeres y niños en sus necesidades básicas.

📸 Exciting Update! 🌿📷

Just had to share some incredible news with all of you! Our team has been working tirelessly to set up 30 trap cameras in and around Onca and Villa Alcira community, and the results have been mind-blowing! In less than a month, we've managed to capture some truly breathtaking shots of the wildlife in this beautiful area. 🦁📸

Of course, there's always room for improvement, and we'll be making adjustments to a few cameras to enhance the image quality. But overall, I'm thrilled to say that our project is going incredibly well! The support and enthusiasm from all of you have been a tremendous motivation for us. Thank you! 🙏❤️

It's bed time for Chippy, our adorable Sanguinus fuscicollis. In the wild, these primates have been observed to use tree hollows as one of their preferred sleeping sites. Here at the rescue center, Chippy loves to burrow in the blanket for extra warmth and comfort. We're working on helping him adapt to a more natural environment and he's making great progress. He's already met the wild group and is on his way to being fully integrated! 🐒

During the interim period preceding the deployment of trap cameras, the team has commenced preparations for the analysis of data that will be accrued over the upcoming months of study. The primary aim of this research endeavor is to distinguish between individual cats within the area under examination. The findings presented here attest to the efficacy of our analytical techniques, as is evinced by the clear identification of the target jaguar within a collection of five images. Notably, a discernible pattern has emerged in one of the photographs, whereas the other images exhibit limited recognition.

It is always heartening to have a team of dedicated individuals working towards a common goal. We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has contributed towards making this research endeavor possible. To accomplish what one wants, it is essential to deal with the dirty stuff, not merely focus on trivial matters. I want to urge everyone to take a look deep within themselves, as they are all equipped with a primitive animalistic instinct. Río went through surgery 2 days ago... almost 3 hours. Mammary tumor. All good she is back to "Crazy rio" thans a lot to our vet team and mecha!
