As a sign of our deepest respect for the great man and superb athlete “Pelé” Édson Arantes do Nascimento, his family, friends, all of Brazil and multitudes of admirers worldwide, a three-day National period of mourning for the Brazilian hero was decreed by President Bolsonaro.

Pelé. Champion of champions, living legend of our lifetime. Football perfection; the King was almost synonymous with his homeland. Generations to come will remember him as a gentleman off the field, and a magician on it; the epic number 10 strikers shirt, immortalized by his genius.

The only one to have won the World Cup three times, in 1958, 1962 and 1970, the first of which he conquered as a 17-year-old. Elected Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee, and FIFA’s Player of the Century, having the record of 1,281 goals in 1,363 games.

Pelé has been called to the good Lord's team to play in heaven's green fields. Rest in peace, our mighty Brazilian hero. God bless your family and close friends in their grief as the world mourns with them. Legends live forever. Long live Pelé, the greatest of all time.
