The Philippine Embassy in Spain mourns the untimely passing of a deeply cherished and esteemed colleague, Consul Eric P. Valenzuela, whose life of service, quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering sense of duty left an enduring mark on the institution and on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Consul Eric was a man of exceptional intellect, deliberate in his decisions, measured in his words, and consistently guided by principle. A true gentleman, he carried himself with humility and grace, earning the deep respect of colleagues and all who had the privilege of working with him.
Beyond his professionalism, Consul Eric was known for his warmth, compassion, and a wonderfully understated sense of humor. He had a natural ability to bring lightness to even the most demanding days, offering wit, kindness, and perspective that put others at ease. His presence fostered not only respect, but genuine affection.
Consul Eric served the Department of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2026, beginning his career in the Office of Financial Management Services and then as Vice Consul and later serving as Consul in Brazil. He subsequently served as First Secretary and Consul in Madrid, Spain. He also worked with distinction in the Office of Consular Affairs. Across all his assignments, he exemplified professionalism, reliability, and a steadfast commitment to public service.
His dedication was most evident in the way he continued to serve despite illness, reflecting quiet courage, resilience, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. He did not seek recognition, but carried out his duties with sincerity and purpose, always mindful of the trust placed in him.
Beyond his official duties, Consul Eric was a man of many talents who embraced life with genuine enthusiasm and quiet joy. Reserved in demeanor yet profound in impact, he embodied the very best of public service. Consul Eric Valenzuela leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, humility, and quiet excellence.
He will be deeply missed and respectfully remembered.
