PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO SURINAME PRESIDENT JENNIFER GEERLINGS-SIMONS
20 August 2026, Paramaribo – Philippine Ambassador to Brazil, Patrick John U. Hilado presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Suriname, H.E. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons. The solemn ceremonies were held at the Presidential Palace, Independence Square in Paramaribo, Suriname.
Following the presentation of his credentials, Ambassador Hilado met with President Geerlings-Simons to convey the warm greetings of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and the Filipino people. Ambassador Hilado further conveyed the message of Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro to President Geerlings-Simons to ensure further strengthening relations with Suriname and in Latin America.
During their meeting, President Geerlings-Simons and the Ambassador noted the growing state of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Suriname that is strengthened by people-to-people connection. Specifically, President Geerlings-Simons commended the Filipinos living and working in Suriname and how they contribute to the country’s economy and nation building. They expressed a shared commitment to further expanding cooperation and sharing initiatives in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, labor, health and healthcare, vocational training, and business.
Also present during the ceremony were H.E. Melvin Bouva, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Cooperation, and Ms. Tiara Plet, Director. Ambassador Hilado was accompanied by Ms. Bien Janine B. Alfaro, Second Secretary and Consul, and Mr. Egon Lyndon Audhoe, Consul, a.h.
