The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority of The Bahamas (AAIA) recently facilitated a Safety Management Systems (SMS) for Aviation training course designed to enhance aviation safety through proactive hazard identification, risk management, and continuous improvement.

Led by AAIA Chief Investigator Kendall Dorsett Jr. MSc, MRAeS, training included participants from the Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas (CAA-B), the Airport Authority, Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD), and the Bahamas Air Navigation Services Authority (BANSA).

The course provided an opportunity for aviation stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of Safety Management Systems and reinforce a collaborative approach to aviation safety throughout The Bahamas.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) has released the Final Report on the incident that occurred on May 12th, 2025 involving an Embraer 145LR with Bahamas registration C6-VIP at the South Bimini International Airport (MYBS), South Bimini, Bahamas.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) has released the Preliminary Report on the accident that occurred on March 26th, 2026 involving a Piper Malibu PA-46-310P with United States registration N46MB while en route to the Exuma International Airport (MYEF), Moss Town, Exuma, Bahamas.

April 9 2026 – The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) is investigating reports of a Beechcraft C99 aircraft, Bahamas registration C6-FLO, that experienced landing gear issues while approaching Lynden Pindling International Airport (MYNN).

Reports indicate that upon approach into MYNN, the pilot in command advised Nassau Air Traffic Control of a landing gear issue and conducted a fly-by of Runway 14 before proceeding southwest of MYNN to carry out further checks. After the issue remained unresolved, the pilot declared an emergency with Nassau Approach Control and landed on Runway 10, where the aircraft’s left landing gear collapsed upon touchdown. No injuries were reported in relation to this occurrence.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) has released the Final Report on the incident that occurred on November 11, 2025 involving a Global Express 6000 BD-700-1A10 with United States registration N116SF at the Norman’s Cay Airport (MYEN), Norman’s Cay, Exuma, Bahamas.

30th March 2026 - The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) is presently investigating an occurrence that took place at the Exuma International Airport (MYEF), Moss Town, Exuma, Bahamas involving a Piper Aztec PA-23-250 aircraft with Bahamas registration C6-BRIT operated by Blessings Aviation.

Preliminary reoorts indicate that upon landing on runway 12 at MYEF, there was a collapse of the nose landing gear which resulted in the aircraft being temporarily disabled on the runway. There were no injuries to the four (4) persons on board. The aircraft received damages to the underside of the fuselage and both propellers.
AAIA investigation into this matter is on going.

March 25 2026 - The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) is currently investigating reports of an accident that occurred at the Mayaguana Airport.
Preliminary reports indicate that a Piper PA-46 aircraft with United States registration N46MB was enroute to the Exuma International Airport, Exuma, Bahamas from Puerto Rico with two (2) persons on board, when the pilot in command contacted air traffic control to advise of engine problems.

Subsequently, the pilot diverted to the Mayaguana Airport and upon landing at Mayaguana, the aircraft exited the runway coming to rest in bushes a short distance away from the runway threshold. The AAIA has been advised that both occupants are receiving medical attention. The extent of any injuries is not known at this time. The AAIA is actively investigating this accident and in keeping with local legislative requirements and international standards, a preliminary report will be made publicly available within 30 days on AAIA’s website https://www.baaid.org/accidents
