THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR NORTH ABACO ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS AND CAYS HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.

A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE NORTHERN AND NORTHWEST BAHAMAS ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS AND CAYS. THE WATCH NOW INCLUDES THE SOUTHEAST BAHAMAS AS WELL AS THE TURK AND CAICOS ISLANDS.

AT 9:18PM, SATELLITE, RADAR AND LIGHTNING DETECTORS HAVE INDICATED THAT THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE WEAKEN ACROSS THE AREA.

AT 6:36 PM EDT OBSERVATION, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUED TO DEPICT A CLUSTERS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHEAST TO EAST TOWARDS AND ACROSS THE WARNING AREAS. THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH TROUGHING INTERACTING WITH AMPLE TROPICAL MOISTURE.

⚠️ WARNING IN EFFECT:

⛈️ A Severe Weather Watch is in effect for the Northern, Northwest and Southeast Bahamas, along with the Turks and Caicos Islands, from late tonight through the overnight hours.

🌦️ GENERAL SITUATION:

A frontal boundary north of The Bahamas is trapping rich tropical moisture across the country, while troughing continues to support showers and thunderstorms across the Northern and Northwest Bahamas.

🌧️ A tropical wave passing south of the Southern Islands is expected to increase shower and thunderstorm activity later tonight into the overnight hours.

📅 OUTLOOK:

Cloudy, wet and humid conditions are expected through mid-week as excessive moisture accumulates across the region. Conditions should become more typical of summer by late Wednesday as high pressure returns. Higher shower and thunderstorm chances are expected across the Northern Bahamas on Saturday as another front approaches the southeastern U.S.

The weakened pressure pattern across the archipelago will continue to produce light to
gentle breezes through early next week, resulting in generally benign sea conditions.
Meanwhile, a surface trough north of the islands and another surface trough over the
Southeast Bahamas will support convection across the Northern, Northwest and Southeast
Bahamas through Monday; elsewhere convection will mainly result from daytime
heating.

BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 12:00 P.M. EDT, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 P.M. EDT.

WARNING IN EFFECT: There are currently no public warnings in effect at this time.

GENERAL SITUATION: Surface troughs in the Northern and Southeast Bahamas will produce unsettled weather across the Bahamas today through tonight. Meanwhile a ridge of high pressure is supporting a light to gentle breeze and smooth to slight seas across the country. A tropical wave will pass south of the Southern Islands tonight increasing shower activity in that area.

Outlook: The front will remain quasi stationary for the first-half of the work week, as excessive moisture continues to accumulate across the region as the wave treks south of the area. As a result, cloudy, wet and humid conditions will prevail through to mid-week, as the upper-level low continues to influence the prevailing weather pattern. By late Wednesday, high pressure will rebound as the front shifts into the Atlantic, allowing for a more general summer pattern with slightly warmer temperatures and streaming showers from the Atlantic. On Saturday, expect higher shower and thunderstorm chances across the Northern Bahamas, as another front makes its way down across the southeastern US.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Severe Thunderstorm Risk: There is a slight to moderate risk for a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across all areas. These storms could produce strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and waterspout activity. Therefore, the public is urged to remain updated on all severe weather warnings issued by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology.

UV Index: Members of the public are advised to wear protective clothing and sunscreen and seek shaded areas while outside during peak sunshine hours (11am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be in the high to extreme range.

⚠️ WARNINGS

⛈️ Severe Thunderstorm Risk: Slight to moderate risk for a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across ALL areas. Storms may produce strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours and waterspouts. Mariners should remain alert for severe weather warnings and seek safe harbour as conditions worsen.

🌊 GENERAL SITUATION

Light winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail as a weakening ridge maintains a weak pressure gradient. Pre-frontal troughing and abundant moisture remain across the region, while an approaching tropical wave interacts with an upper-level low near Hispaniola. Increased showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, especially across the northern waters.

Brief gusty winds, locally higher seas, lightning and reduced visibility are possible near heavier showers and thunderstorms.

🔭 OUTLOOK

Marine conditions remain mostly unchanged through mid-week, with light winds and slight to moderate seas. Moisture will increase as the tropical wave moves south and interacts with an upper-level disturbance. Cloudy, wet and humid conditions with showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Brief gusty winds, higher seas, lightning and reduced visibility are possible near heavier showers.

🌦️ GENERAL SITUATION:
Unsettled weather will remain possible across the northern half of the country as pre-frontal troughing and abundant moisture interact with a front moving southward and stalling near the Florida/Georgia boundary.

Elsewhere, an approaching tropical wave interacting with an upper-level low near Hispaniola will enhance showers and support isolated thunderstorms through tonight. Light winds will maintain humid and unstable conditions.

📅 OUTLOOK:
Cloudy, wet and humid conditions are expected through mid-week. High pressure should rebuild by late Wednesday, bringing a more typical summer pattern. Higher shower and thunderstorm chances are expected across the Northern Bahamas on Saturday as another front moves southward across the southeastern U.S.
