The Bahamas National Sailing School is back on the water, with our young sailors gearing up for an exciting season and setting their sights on the 2026 Bahamas Optimist National Championship, taking place October 1–4 in Abaco, hosted by Hope Town Junior Sailing on Elbow Cay.

We caught up with instructor Pedro Rahming, who knows firsthand what the BNSS experience is all about—he learned to sail right here at the Bahamas National Sailing School and has now returned to help inspire the next generation of sailors.

From student to instructor, the journey continues!

So, what keeps our Junior Sailors coming back to the BNSS year after year?
Is it the friendships, the amazing coaches, the thrill of competition—or simply the love of sailing?
Maybe it’s all of the above!

It’s time to hit the waves! 🌊⛵️The BNSS kicks off another exciting year of Junior Sailing!

As the new Minister responsible for Regattas and Sailing, the Hon. Mario Bowleg is hitting the ground running, engaging with the sailing community to identify the changes needed to strengthen and advance our national sport.
Today’s meeting marks just the first step in what the Minister hopes will be a strong and collaborative relationship with boat owners, skippers, and stakeholders—one focused on listening, addressing concerns, finding solutions, and creating new opportunities for the continued growth and development of sailing!

Today, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is meeting with boat owners and their representatives for an open and constructive discussion to chart the way forward for our National Sport!

Representing the Ministry are the Honourable Mario Bowleg, Minister of Youth and Sports with responsibility for Regattas; Permanent Secretary Betty Kerr; Director Kelsie Johnson-Sills; Sindy Gay, Unit Head of Regattas; and Donald Rolle, Director of the National Sport.

The meeting provides an important opportunity to hear directly from those who are at the heart of our sailing community, listen to their concerns, and explore practical solutions for the future of the sport.

Together, we are working to strengthen collaboration and advance both Bahamian sloop sailing and international sailing, while creating a stronger and more sustainable future for sailing across The Bahamas.
