RBDF INTERCEPTS HAITIAN VESSEL NEAR GREAT INAGUA

DEFENCE, HEADQUARTERS 3 SEPT ‘26- The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), in coordination with United States partners, successfully intercepted a suspected Haitian migrant vessel approximately 17.87 nautical miles northeast of Great Inagua on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on 2 September, RBDF Operations received information from the Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) regarding a 45-foot vessel powered by a single outboard engine, with a number of migrants reportedly onboard.

In response, RBDF Safe boat P-52, operating from Inagua, was deployed to intercept the vessel. Under the command of Chief Petty Officer Mark Hall, the crew located the vessel at approximately 21°02.50'N, 072°50.50'W.

Upon interception, the RBDF crew conducted an initial head count and determined that a total of 146 individuals were onboard. The group consisted of:
• 111 males
• 30 females
• 2 male children
• 3 female children

The vessel was subsequently escorted to Matthew Town, Great Inagua, where the migrants are being handed over to the relevant authorities for further processing.

RBDF COLLABORATION WITH COLOMBIAN AEROSPACE FORCE

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Airwing Department collaborated with representatives of the Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana (FAC)[Colombian Air Force], during engagements.

The first was Senior Lieutenant George Lightfoot serving as the RBDF Liaison Officer participating in the Counter-Narcotics Course hosted by the Colombian Aerospace Force in Bogotá, Colombia, from 12 through 20 August 2026. The Counter-Narcotics Course is a premier regional training program which leverages Colombia’s decades of specialized, combat-tested experience to build aerial interception and intelligence capabilities for partner nations across Latin America and the Caribbean Region.

The second was the Airwing Department welcoming representatives of the Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana at Odyssey Aviation on Saturday, 22 August 2026. Both engagements forms part of Operation ZEUS ARCANO, an international cooperative security initiative focused on strengthening collaboration and sharing operational knowledge and experiences in combating Transnational Organized Crime (TOC).

As part of the initiative, the Colombian Liaison Officer delivered the inaugural International Cooperative Security Seminar, a six-hour programme. It provided an important platform for the exchange of knowledge, operational practices, and lessons learned, while strengthening professional relationships and cooperation between the RBDF and FAC.

J.P. MORGAN TRUST COMPANY (BAHAMAS) LIMITED SUPPORT RBDF VETERANS

J.P. Morgan Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited demonstrated its cooperate social responsibility by supporting RBDF Veterans with a generous donation of $3,000, on Monday, 24 August 2026. This gesture has produced a positive impact for the men and women who have served with distinction as Defence Force personnel.

RBDF Veterans have dedicated their lives to protect the nation; hence, supporting them as they navigate the transition back into civilian life must be a shared responsibility. As such, J.P. Morgan Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited’s generous donation to support RBDF Veterans also highlights the importance of national service while teaching young Bahamians about the sacrifices and patriotism of RBDF personnel.

Captain Gregory Brown, Force Inspectorate Officer representing Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey was on hand for the presentation. He was accompanied by Commander Judy McDonald, Veterans Affairs Officer. Representing, J.P. RBDF WELCOMES UNITED STATES COAST GUARD (USCG) SOUTHEAST DISTRICT COMMANDER AT HMBS CORAL HARBOUR

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) welcomed United States Coast Guard (USCG) Southeast District Commander, Rear Admiral Adam A. Chamie, and a delegation for an official visit to HMBS Coral Harbour on Wednesday, 19 August 2026

Rear Adm. Adam Chamie has the duties and responsibilities as the Southeast District Commander and Director of Department of Homeland Security Operation Vigilant Sentry,

Since July, 2025. Prior to this new appointment, he served the Assistant Commandant for Operations Integration and Response Policy at US Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C..

Rear Adm. Adam Chamie’s visit included a meeting with the RBDF Executive Team, led by Captain Henry Daxon, Executive Staff Officer who represented Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey. The meeting was followed by a tour of HMBS Coral Harbour, providing an opportunity for the RBDF and U.S. Coast Guard representatives to engage on matters of mutual interest and strengthen the longstanding partnership.

The partnership between the RBDF and the U.S. Coast Guard continues to be a model of international cooperation, demonstrating the power of strategic alliances in safeguarding shared interests in the maritime domain. This partnership represents a commitment to the maritime safety and security throughout The Bahamas and the wider region.

The visit and tour of HMBS Coral Harbour provided the USCG delegation with an opportunity to gain further insight into the RBDF’s operational capabilities and ongoing efforts to fulfill our mandate of safeguarding the territorial integrity and maritime interests of The Bahamas.

CDF AND EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM ATTEND OPENING CEREMONY FOR CARICOM IMPACS CRIME GUN INTELLIGENCE UNIT (CGIU) TRAINING

Defence Headquarters, 26 AUG. 26 (RBDF): Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd P. Moxey accompanied by the Executive Leadership Team attended the CARICOM IMPACS Crime Gun Intelligence (CGIU) Training Opening Ceremony at the Paul Farquharson Center, Royal Bahamas Police Force Headquarters on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

The CARICOM IMPACS Crime Gun Intelligence (CGIU) Training represents a significant demonstration of the national, regional and international collaboration to combat illicit fi****ms and gun violence in the Region through enhanced intelligence-driven strategies.

The RBDF, as a key partner in law enforcement’s shared mission for a safer Bahamas is honoured to support this CARICOM IMPACS Crime Gun Intelligence (CGIU) Training. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Ms. Bridget Hepburn, highlighted that the Training strengthens inter-agency partnerships and mandates across policing, corrections, boarder protection, customs, immigration and intelligence.

The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Myles K. LaRoda emphasized that this Training speaks directly to The Davis Administration’s five-pillar priority strategy. It strengthens prevention by helping us choke off the supply of illegal fi****ms before they reach our streets.

RBDF JUNIOR RATES MESS BACK-TO-SCHOOL INITIATIVE

The RBDF Junior Rates Mess demonstrates esprit de corps, support for welfare and morale of its members through a Back-to-School-Supply initiative aimed at the preparation for the upcoming academic year.

The initiative provided school supplies to marines who are parents, offering practical assistance as they balance the demands of military service with their responsibilities to their families. Back-to-school initiatives are vital for military parents because they help to ease the heavy financial, emotional, and logistical burdens often associated with the demanding career of service.

By coordinating and facilitating this Back-to-School-Supply initiative for Marines who are parents, the Junior Rates Mess acknowledges the emotional resilience, responsibility to duty, and to their families.

The Marines expressed their gratitude for the kind gesture, which served as a meaningful reminder that their dedication, sacrifice, and role as parents are appreciated. Leading Seaman Roderico Carroll, currently serves as President of the Junior Rates Mess.

Commander Defence Force Commodore Floyd Moxey commended the President of the Mess for this timely, relevant and significant initiative. To paraphrase a noted author, “The return to school is more than a milestone; it is an opportunity to develop new interests, enhance and refine skills, and learn new ideas with familiar and new friends. When we invest in the personal readiness of RBDF personnel and their Families, we are investing in the resilience of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.”

RBDF NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER PARTICIPATE IN THE INTER-AMERICAN DEFENSE BOARD (IADB) UNITED NATIONS PEACEKEEPING COURSE FOR WOMEN

Chief Petty Officer Stacey Ferguson participated in the Inter-American Defense Board UN Peacekeeping Course, virtually from 30 July to 5 August and in-person from 10 August to 14 August 2026 at the Naval Peace and Humanitarian Operations Center, Rio de Janeiro.

The IADB actively supports specialized training initiatives designed to prepare female military and police personnel for United Nations peacekeeping missions. Grounded in UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security, these programs aim to increase female representation and leadership in global conflict zones. By collaborating with regional partners and international training facilities, the IADB helps equip participants with the tactical skills, strategic insight, and operational readiness required to handle complex humanitarian and security crises.

The curriculum places a heavy emphasis on integrating a gender perspective into global security operations and addressing vulnerabilities unique to conflict-affected populations. Participants study critical legal frameworks, operational logistics, and leadership development while mastering strategic responses to prevent conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence. Ultimately, the course serves as a vital platform for female officers to overcome structural barriers within the defense sector, enhance regional cooperation, and deploy successfully to diverse international peacekeeping deployments.

CPO Ferguson joined military, police and civilian personnel from twenty countries representing diverse defense organizations and operational environments. Her selection and participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Course reflects the RBDF’s gender optimization policy in line with international best practices.

The United Nations Peacekeeping Course for Women, develops international capabilities and strengthens Bahamian national capacity through the RBDF. The RBDF Non-Commissioned Officer’s participation was sponsored by the Inter-American Defense Board and coordinated through the Permanent Mission of The Bahamas to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C.

CONDOLENCES REMARKS FOR THE LATE RETIRED PETTY OFFICER PHILLIP LOCKHART

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force mourns the passing of Petty Officer Phillip Lockhart, whose career in the organization spanned 25 years of dedicated service. Petty Officer Lockhart began his career as a Marine Recruit with New Entry 16 on 14 January 1985, where he successfully completed 12 weeks of rigorous training, graduating on 4 April 1985. Throughout his years of service, he demonstrated distinction, dedication, versatility, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards in the ex*****on of his duties.

During the early years of his career, Petty Officer Lockhart was drafted to the Electrical Engineering Department, where he developed his expertise as a Marine Mechanic. His dedication to professional development led to his participation in several specialized training opportunities. He successfully completed IMET training, earning honours in the Patrol Craft Electrician Course, and later completed an eight-week Marine Electrical Course at the Canadian Coast Guard College. These qualifications further enhanced his technical capabilities and enabled him to make valuable contributions to the operational effectiveness of the Defence Force.

Throughout his career, Petty Officer Lockhart also served aboard several Royal Bahamas Defence Force vessels, including HMBS Ft. Charlotte, HMBS Yellow Elder, and HMBS Bahamas. He also served within the Aids to Navigation (ATON) Section, where his technical knowledge and commitment to duty contributed to the successful ex*****on of his responsibilities. In every appointment, he carried out his duties to the best of his ability and remained a valued member of the organization.

After 25 years of distinguished service, Petty Officer Lockhart was honourably discharged from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on 14 January 2010. His commitment, technical expertise, and dedication to the Defence Force and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas will be remembered and deeply missed by those who served alongside him.

To the family and friends of the late Petty Officer Phillip Lockhart, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force extends its deepest sympathy as you navigate this difficult period of bereavement. May you find comfort in knowing that his life of service and the contributions he made to the organization will remain a meaningful part of the Force’s history.
