Happy Majority Rule Day!
Today in History; January 10, 1967

The election of January 10, 1967 ushers in a new era of a government that reflected the popular majority will the Bahamas, and the principle of one person, one vote.

The incumbent United Bahamian Party was defeated by a coalition of the Progressive Liberal Party and two independent MPs to break the deadlock.

Previously, only land owners were eligible to vote in as many places as they owned property.

January 10th has been recognized as a national holiday by the Majority Rule Day act 2013
