In observance of Earth Day, the Ethan S. Bain Environmental Health Foundation gave finalists in an environmental speech competition a powerful, firsthand look at modern waste management in action 🌍♻️

From exploring a 300-acre facility that has transformed its sustainability practices since 2018, to learning how waste is managed, repurposed, and reduced, students were exposed to real solutions shaping a cleaner, healthier Bahamas. Highlights of the tour included material re-purposing for road paving, safe separation of electronic waste, fire risk reduction, groundwater monitoring, and organic composting.

As the Foundation continues its mission to promote environmental awareness and public health, this experience served as a meaningful reminder that protecting our environment starts with each of us through the choices we make every day.

Your commitment to education and youth empowerment has helped create a powerful platform where students can speak boldly, think critically, and lead confidently on issues that shape our nation’s future.

Under this year’s inspiring theme, “It’s My Environment: Conservation and Sustainability Are Our Responsibility,” students rose to the challenge delivering passionate, thought-provoking speeches that highlighted the importance of protecting our environment and taking ownership of sustainable practices.

Together, we are nurturing informed leaders, strengthening environmental awareness, and building a generation ready to protect and preserve The Bahamas. Thank you, Ministry of Education, for standing with us in shaping minds and inspiring action for a healthier, more sustainable tomorrow. 🌍✨

🏆 Celebrating Excellence in Environmental Health Education 🌿

On 6th November at the SC, the Ethan S. Bain Environmental Health Foundation proudly presented the Winning School Plaque and $500 award to L.N. Coakley High School in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the 2025 Environmental Health Speech Competition.

The plaque was formally presented to Ms. Denise Curtis, Vice Principal of L.N. Coakley High School, by Dr. Christine Williams, Co-Chairperson of the 2025 Speech Competition, alongside Jacqueline M. Bain, Founder of the Foundation.

This moment reflects our continued commitment to empowering young minds, promoting environmental health awareness, and celebrating schools that lead by example. Congratulations to L.N. Coakley High School on this well-deserved honor! 👏🌍

🌿 Exploring Our Heritage, Embracing Our Environment! 🌊

The Ethan S. Bain Environmental Health Foundation proudly led a group of Speech Competition Finalists on an enriching field trip to Clifton Heritage National Park, where history, culture, and the environment beautifully unite.

Students toured the park’s historic landmarks, explored the natural trails, and learned about The Bahamas’ deep cultural roots and the importance of preserving our heritage and environment for future generations. 🌴

These finalists will showcase their passion and knowledge at the 2nd Annual Speech Competition, to be held on Thursday, November 6th, under the theme:
“It’s My Environment: Conservation and Sustainability Are Our Responsibility.” 🌎💚
