Preparedness knows no borders. 🌎

Today, Minister McKell Bonaby, Managing Director Aarone Sargent, and a DRM Authority leadership team met virtually with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) ahead of RP27—coming to New Providence, March 8–11, 2027.

We discussed strengthening regional resilience through international dialogue and cooperation, event planning details, and providing platforms for Bahamian civil society organizations.

"Better safe than sorry" - Prime Minister Philip Davis

Yesterday, our leadership, along with partners from several Government agencies, including Social Services, the Ministry of Works, the Royal Bahamas Police and Defense Forces, and utility companies BTC, BPL, and Aliv, briefed the Prime Minister. We updated the PM on the latest disaster preparedness developments, including the readiness of our country's shelters, the progress we are making on our memoranda of understanding for evacuations, the cohorts of emergency responders that we have trained, and the readiness of our energy and communications infrastructures.

As PM Davis said during the briefing: "Better safe than sorry." Hurricane season isn’t over yet. Check your emergency plan and supplies. Visit www.getready.gov.bs for resources to help you stay ready, so that you don't have to get ready.

Yesterday, we welcomed the High Commissioner of Britain to The Bahamas, HE Smita Rosetti, and the High Commissioner of Britain to Jamaica, HE Alicia Herbert, for an extremely productive meeting focused on cooperating internationally to further strengthen our nation's disaster preparedness.
