On 17 August 2026, the management and regional teams of the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) gathered at Bumthang, for the annual Business Conclave 2026—a pivotal platform for reflection, dialogue, and strategic renewal.

The Conclave went beyond operational reviews. It fostered open and candid conversations on the challenges confronting FCBL, while looking ahead to emerging opportunities, innovative solutions, and the strategic pathways that will shape our future.
The session opened with the new Chief Executive Officer's vision and strategic perspectives, setting the tone for meaningful deliberations. Discussions centered on:

✅ Policy development
✅ Operational challenges
✅ Business opportunities
✅ Organizational effectiveness
✅ Long-term strategic priorities

At the heart of the deliberations was the imperative to align FCBL's business strategy with Bhutan's 10X Economic Transformation Agenda—ensuring that FCBL remains resilient, competitive, and responsive in an increasingly dynamic business environment.
CEO further reminded everyone of His Majesty’s vision.

His Majesty The King has set the vision for Bhutan to become a self-reliant and fully "developed" nation within our lifetime. This ambitious goal demands that every institution, every enterprise, and every Bhutanese contribute meaningfully to the collective mission.

𝐹𝒞𝐵𝐿 𝐹𝑜𝓊𝓃𝒹𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝒟𝒶𝓎 𝟤𝟢𝟤𝟨 — 𝐼𝓃 𝒢𝓇𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓉𝓊𝒹𝑒 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒟𝑒𝓋𝑜𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃

On 16 August 1974, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, established the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL), laying the foundation for an institution dedicated to serving the nation and contributing to Bhutan’s food security and agricultural development.

This year, FCBL staff from the three regions and the Corporate Head Office, led by the CEO, offered thousands of butter lamps at Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang and Tamshing Lhakhang before the commencement of the Foundation Day programme.

The sacred offerings were made with prayers and aspirations for the good health, peace, happiness and long life of His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Queen, Their Royal Highnesses the Gyalsey and Gyalsem, the Royal Family, and the People and the Country.

Following the morning observance, FCBL staff continued the spirit of service by volunteering in the construction of the new Lhakhang at Kharchu Dratshang of His Holiness Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche.

The day was therefore not only a celebration of 52 years of FCBL’s service, but also a meaningful reflection of our enduring values of gratitude, devotion, service and commitment to the nation.

From its humble beginnings in 1974 to today, FCBL remains committed to serving the King, the People and the nation, and to contributing to the well-being and prosperity of Bhutan.

On 16 August 1974, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo established the Food Corporation of Bhutan Limited (FCBL) - a visionary step toward strengthening our nation’s food security and economic resilience.

Today, as we mark our 52nd Foundation Day, we pause to honour that vision and reaffirm our commitment to the people of Bhutan.

The day was graced by Dasho Dzongda of Bumthang as Chief Guest, alongside regional heads, cooperative leaders, and our dedicated FCBL team from across the country. In his address, Dasho Dzongda reminded us of FCBL’s enduring mission—to serve our farmers, secure our food systems, and drive socio-economic progress.

Our CEO reflected on our 52 - year journey and the timeless relevance of our founding purpose. He reaffirmed our resolve to build a more resilient, innovative, and future-ready FCBL - one that makes His Majesty the Great Fourth Druk Gyalpo proud and contributes meaningfully to the vision of His Majesty the King.

We also celebrated excellence, recognising top sales performers from our three regions - a tribute to the hard work and dedication that drive FCBL forward.

As we look ahead, our promise remains clear:

Today, the FCBL had the distinct honour of welcoming the FAO Representative for Bhutan and Nepal, Mr. Ken Shimizu, with the FAO Bhutan Country Office Team, to our headquarters. The visit reaffirmed our shared commitment to strengthening Bhutan's food systems through meaningful partnerships and collaborative action.

During the meeting, our Chief Executive Officer highlighted FCBL's strategic role in ensuring national food security, maintaining strategic food reserves, stabilizing market prices, and supporting agricultural value chains. He also emphasized key areas where collaboration and technical support from FAO could further strengthen FCBL's mandate. Our Service Director presented specific priority areas and initiatives where FAO's expertise and partnership would be instrumental in enhancing the Corporation's institutional and operational capacity.

The discussions provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas on promoting sustainable agriculture, improving food security, and building resilient food systems in Bhutan. We are confident that closer collaboration between FCBL and FAO will facilitate knowledge sharing, foster innovation, strengthen institutional capabilities, and create lasting benefits for farmers, consumers, and the nation as a whole.
