A training on the Veterinary Information System (VIS) and the enhanced Pig and Poultry Farm Registration System (FRS) Version 2.0 was successfully conducted for all staff of the Gasa Dzongkhag Livestock Sector (DLS).

The VIS training was facilitated by Sangay Nidup from DVH, while the FRS 2.0 training was conducted by Kelzang Wangmo, LPO, and Nima Tshering, Khatoed GLS.

The training focused on strengthening staff capacity in digital data management, farm registration, reporting, and effective use of the systems to enhance livestock service delivery.

The session concluded with active participation and a shared commitment to improving data management and digital reporting within the livestock sector.

The Yak Festival at Marche Lake highlights the economic, cultural, and tourism potential of yak farming, attracting hundreds of visitors and generating income for local communities.

The first Dzongkhag Livestock Sector Coordination Meeting for the Financial Year 2026–2027 was successfully held under the chairmanship of the newly appointed Chief Dzongkhag Livestock Officer (CDLO).

The meeting also marked the official handing and taking over of the Gasa Livestock Sector from the Assistant Dzongkhag Livestock Officer (ADLO) to the Chief Dzongkhag Livestock Officer (CDLO).

During the meeting, the Dzongkhag and Gewog progress reports for FY 2025–2026 were presented, followed by discussions on the annual work plan for FY 2026–2027. Key agenda items included preparations for the 9th Royal Highland Festival, the One Gewog One Project Initiative, and other important sector activities.

The CDLO also introduced KoboToolbox as a digital tool to strengthen data collection, management, and progress reporting. Participants shared ideas and experiences on improving data management, reporting systems, and overall coordination within the sector. Various sectoral issues and challenges were also discussed to identify practical solutions.

The meeting was attended by 10 participants from the Dzongkhag Livestock Sector (DLS), Gewog Livestock Extension Offices, and the Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital (DVH). The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening coordination and enhancing livestock service delivery across the Dzongkhag.

Welcoming Our New Chief Dzongkhag Livestock Officer to Gasa Dzongkhag

The Gasa Dzongkhag Livestock Sector is delighted to warmly welcome our new Chief Dzongkhag Livestock Officer (CDLO), Mr. Pema Ugyen.

Prior to his appointment as the Chief DLO of Gasa Dzongkhag, Mr. Pema Ugyen served as the Livestock Production Officer (LPO) in Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag, where he contributed his valuable knowledge and experience towards strengthening livestock development.

The Chief DLO was respectfully seen off from Wangdue Phodrang by a team led by the Dasho Dzongrab of Wangdue Phodrang, and was warmly received upon his arrival by the Gasa Dzongkhag team. A traditional khadar ceremony was also held, where staff of Gasa Dzongkhag gathered to extend their heartfelt welcome, good wishes, and support for his new journey.

After years without a Chief Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, Gasa Dzongkhag is privileged to have dedicated leadership to further guide and strengthen the livestock sector. We look forward to greater coordination, innovation, and collaborative efforts under his leadership to enhance livestock production, support our farmers, promote sustainable practices, and contribute towards the overall development of the farming communities of Gasa.

The Gasa Dzongkhag Livestock Sector wishes Mr. Pema Ugyen a successful, meaningful, and fulfilling tenure. May his leadership bring continued progress and new opportunities for the livestock sector and the people of Gasa.
