Spotlighting the hands that make it happen! 🛠️🌱
1. What originally inspired you to join the club, and how was your perspective?
Answer: I initially joined the Tarayana Club because I wanted to contribute to society and be part of something meaningful beyond academics. At first, I saw volunteering as a way to help others, but over time, I realized that it is also a journey of personal growth. It has taught me empathy, responsibility, and the importance of serving with humility. Today, I see volunteering not just as an activity, but as a commitment to creating positive change in people's lives.
2. Can you share specific moments or encounters during your community services that made you realize the true impact of your work?
Answer: During one of our field visits, I met an old couple who expressed genuine gratitude for the support and assistance we provided. Seeing their smiles and hearing their words of appreciation made me realize that even small acts of service can have a significant impact. That moment reminded me that our efforts, no matter how simple they may seem, one can bring hope and comfort to others.
3. Balancing academic works, personal life, and community services isn't easy. What drives you to showing up consistently?
Answer: What motivates me is the sense of purpose that comes with serving others. While balancing studies, personal responsibilities, and volunteering can be challenging, knowing that our work can make a difference keeps me going. The experiences I gain, the people I meet, and the positive impact we create make every sacrifice worthwhile.
4. Can you describe a time when a community project faced an unexpected challenge(e.g. logistics, resources and community skepticism, ect)? How did you and others handle it?
Answer: One of the most memorable challenges we faced was during our journey to Goensangkha. The weather suddenly turned unfavorable, and it began raining heavily while we were carrying rations to the Goenpa. We were completely soaked, and the difficult terrain made the journey even more challenging. However, instead of getting discouraged, our team worked together and adapted to the situation by covering ourselves and the supplies with plastic sheets to protect them from the rain. Despite the harsh conditions, we remained determined and completed our task successfully. This experience taught me the importance of resilience, teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication in overcoming challenges during community service.
5. Grassroots volunteer service often requires physical labour. How do you keep self and team moral high when physical works gets exhausting?
Answer: When the work becomes physically demanding, I try to maintain a positive attitude and lead by example. I encourage my teammates, remind them of the purpose behind our efforts, and make sure we support one another. Sometimes a simple joke, conversation, or word of appreciation can boost everyone's energy and keep the team motivated.
6. As the recognized best volunteer, you often set the pace for others. What's your advice to juniors members?
Answer: I believe everyone has something valuable to contribute. I try to suggest newer and quieter members feel comfortable in taking part in activities. Even small acts make a big difference in someone's life.
