Bhutan is home to the world's highest unclimbed mountain Gangkar Puensum 🏔 (7570m).

Mountains in Bhutan are considered sacred and are protected with a deep reverence for local cultural and spiritual values and most importantly for the future generation.

Since 2003, mountaineering above 6,000m has been prohibited in Bhutan.

However, many treks in Bhutan offer spectacular views of Gangkar Puensum and mountain journeys in some of the most fragile eco-systems in the Himalayas.

As we join the global community today in celebrating International Mountain Day, Bhutan looks forward to welcoming you all soon to the magic world of the mountains.

Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) may soon launch a new policy for regional leisure tourists. According to the new policy, a regional leisure tourist may need to pay approximately Nu 1,200 (INR 1,200/-) sustainable development fee (SDF) per person per day to visit Bhutan. The new policy is expected to take effect from July 1st, 2020.
