PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Parking Arrangement for the 9th Monlam Chenmo of Thimphu Dzongkhag at Buddha Dordenma (28th May to 04 June 2026)

The Thimphu Traffic Division would like to notify the general public and devotees attending the week-long Monlam Chenmo at Buddha Dordenma regarding the designated parking and transport arrangements:

Designated Parking Areas

• Parking A – Chabje Zimchung and Parking B adjacent to Parking A are designated for sticker vehicles only.

• Parking C – Located behind Buddha Dordenma, designated for fire brigade and ambulance services only.

• Parking D – Designated for catering groups and shuttle bus pick-and-drop services.

• Parking E and F – Designated as general parking areas for devotees.

• Parking G – Located opposite to Pick and Drop Point 2, designated for tourist vehicles only

Pick and Drop Point 2 – Designated pick-and-drop point for all private, BG, and commercial light vehicles.

City Bus Services (Pick and Drop)

1. Changlimithang (Central and North Thimphu)
Devotees coming from the central and northern parts of Thimphu may avail city bus services from Changlimithang to Kuenselphodrang.

2. South Bus Terminal (RTC Junction)
Devotees coming from the southern part of Thimphu may avail city bus services from the South Bus Terminal to Kuenselphodrang.

🚨 Important Traffic Advisory 🚨

- The Traffic Division will not allow roadside parking from Druk School Junction to the venue in order to avoid traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The Thimphu Traffic Division kindly requests all devotees to park their vehicles at the designated central and south pick-and-drop points and avail city bus services to help minimize traffic congestion and facilitate smooth movement of vehicles during the event.

The cooperation of the general public is highly appreciated.

The Traffic Division would like to reiterate and remind all motorists of the lane-changing rules to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow on double-lane roads.

All drivers are advised to strictly follow the rules as below:

1. Always overtake from the right lane.
2. Use the left lane when driving at a lower speed.
3. Use the right lane for higher speeds, but do not exceed the prescribed speed limit.
4. Always use the appropriate indicator when changing lanes.
5. Give way to vehicles that are signaling their intention to change lanes.
6. Do not change lanes where there is a continuous, unbroken line on the road.
7. Change lanes only where there is a broken line, and only after signaling and ensuring it is safe to do so.
8. Always check mirrors and blind spots before switching lanes.

The Traffic Division urges all road users to follow these rules responsibly to prevent accidents and promote safe driving culture.
