International Road Show for the Gelephu–Tareythang Road and Bridges Project, Hyderabad, India (2nd & 3rd June 2026)
The Department of Surface Transport, Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Royal Government of Bhutan, is preparing to procure contractors for the construction of the Gelephu–Tareythang Road and Bridges under the World Bank-financed Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia (ACCESS) Phase-2 Bhutan Project. The project comprises a 14-kilometre road corridor forming part of the Southern East–West Highway, together with five major river bridges across the Mau, Jengkhurung, Taklai, Langer, and Singye rivers, with an estimated cost of US$190 million.
An Early Market Engagement was held in Thimphu, Bhutan on 30th March 2026 in hybrid mode, attended by contractors from Bhutan, India, Nepal, Thailand, and Turkiye. To broaden market outreach beyond the initial engagement, the Road Show series was planned with the objective of attracting experienced international contractors to participate in the upcoming road and bridge tenders, to be procured through Open International Competitive Bidding following Prequalification.
The Road Show in Hyderabad, India was held on 2nd and 3rd June 2026, attended by approximately 100 participants representing around 70 firms (contractors, consultants and suppliers). The event generated considerable interest, with contractors raising a large number of questions on technical, environmental, procurement, and site-related matters. The active engagement and volume of queries reflected strong market interest in the upcoming tenders.
The Road Show in Bangkok will be held on 9th and 10th June 2026, targeting construction firms from East Asia and South Asia (mainland). A Virtual Road Show is also tentatively scheduled for 15th June 2026 for international contractors from other countries who could not make it to Hyderabad and Bangkok Road Shows.
The Specific Procurement Notice for Prequalification is tentatively scheduled for publication in late June 2026.
