Bhutan Biodiversity Portal འབྲུག་སྐྱེ་ལྡན་རིགས་སྣ་འཆར་སྒོ།

Bhutan Biodiversity Portal is an initiative of a consortium. Therefore, any idea, advice and comment are most welcome.

Drawing inspiration from Article 5 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan, this portal aims to provide the most comprehensive and updated information on Bhutan’s biodiversity to enable conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity for present and future generations. It is an initiative of a consortium formed by key Biodiversity data generating agencies in the country, namely- the Nationa

l Biodiversity Centre, Department of Forests and Park Services represented by Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER), and Nature Conservation Division, Information, Communication and Technology Division (ICTD) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and the College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan. This portal is a work in progress as we adhere to the philosophy of continuous improvement.

The National Biodiversity Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock is pleased to announce a 𝐭𝐰𝐨-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥 (𝐁𝐁𝐏), 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

📍 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞: National Biodiversity Centre, Serbithang
This programme is designed for registered and certified tour guides and tour operators who regularly interact with Bhutan’s rich biodiversity and can play an important role in documenting and conserving it.

🎯 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞
• Enhance awareness on biodiversity conservation initiatives in Bhutan
• Introduce participants to the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal and promote citizen-based biodiversity documentation
• Provide hands-on training on recording and uploading species observations
• Build understanding of relevant biodiversity legislations including the Biodiversity Act of Bhutan 2022 and the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Policy 2015
• Encourage responsible biodiversity documentation and strengthen collaboration with the tourism sector

🌿 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬
Participants will learn about:

• Biodiversity conservation in Bhutan and the role of NBC
• Access and Benefit Sharing: Global Perspective and National Measures
• Introduction to plant taxonomy and invasive alien species
• Mushroom diversity, documentation, and photography
• Hands-on training on the Bhutan Biodiversity Portal
• Awareness on CITES and biosecurity measures
• Visits to biodiversity conservation programmes at NBC
• Interactive quiz, prizes and certificate award

👥 𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲:
Participation is open to registered/certified tour guides and tour operators.

📌 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: Only the first 50 registered participants will be selected.
