Visit of Luntse Farmers to ARDC Bajo: Exploring Agricultural Innovations
A group of 32 farmers from Luntse, including 9 women, visited the Agriculture Research and Development Centre (ARDC) Bajo today to explore modern agricultural practices and technologies. The farmers, engaged in both crop farming and livestock rearing, were introduced to several innovative techniques aimed at improving productivity and sustainability in their own farming activities.
ARDC Bajo showcased cutting-edge automation in protected cultivation, allowing for efficient irrigation and enhanced crop management. The farmers were also introduced to winter vegetable cultivation, which ensures a continuous supply of fresh produce even during colder months. Additionally, ARDC highlighted its sub-tropical fruits and nuts germplasm collection, offering valuable insights into varieties that are well-suited to Bhutan’s climate.
The visit also included a special focus on wheat trials, with an emphasis on Durum wheat, a high-protein variety that could benefit local farming systems. Furthermore, climate-smart technologies were presented to help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns and ensure sustainable farming practices.
The Luntse farmers were pleased with the knowledge they gained and expressed excitement about applying these new techniques to improve their own agricultural practices.
