BASIC RECRUIT FIREMANSHIP TRAINING COMMENCES

The City of Francistown Council (COFC), through its Fire and Emergency Services, officially commenced a six-week Basic Recruit Firemanship Training Programme on 31 August 2026, bringing together 18 recruits from various local authorities and organisations. The training is scheduled to run until 9 October 2026.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, Deputy Town Clerk–Development, Mr Molapisi Morapedi, said the training aimed to equip recruits with essential firefighting knowledge, practical skills, physical preparedness, discipline and professional competencies required for effective emergency response.

Mr Morapedi urged the recruits to approach the programme with commitment, discipline, determination and professionalism, emphasising that the knowledge and practical skills gained would be critical in preparing them for the demanding responsibilities of fire and emergency response.

He further noted that the programme extends beyond technical firefighting skills, focusing on the development of well-rounded emergency services personnel who demonstrate courage, integrity, discipline, professionalism and a strong commitment to public service.

Mr Morapedi cautioned the recruits that the training would challenge them both physically and mentally, requiring perseverance, teamwork and adherence to high professional standards.

He encouraged the recruits to embrace the challenges of the programme as an opportunity to build the competence, confidence and resilience necessary to effectively serve and protect their communities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: ROAD PATCHING EXERCISE

His Worship, the Mayor of the City of Francistown, Hon. Gaone Majere, this morning officially launched the Community Service Road Patching Exercise at Monarch.

The initiative aims to address potholes, improve road conditions and enhance road safety across the City.

The Mayor encouraged residents, businesses, community organisations, youth groups and other stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise and contribute towards improving their communities.

Residents are urged to take ownership of their communities and work together with Council in their respective wards, as per the shared location schedule that was shared in our Council page.

Let us work together to improve our roads and build a better Francistown!
