🇧🇼🇯🇵 Connecting Cultures: The Embassy at the Global Expo Botswana!
Since 2013, the Embassy of Japan has participated annually in the Botswana Consumer Fair, bringing the rich traditions and vibrant spirit of Japan closer to the people of Botswana.

Our booth has always been a lively hub for hands-on cultural experiences—from the intricate art of Origami (paper folding) and Shodo (Japanese calligraphy) to the traditional taste of Matcha. Through these interactive exchanges, countless visitors have discovered and connected with Japanese culture firsthand.

These enduring cultural ties paved the way for remarkable milestones, such as the successful Sushi Exhibition at the National Museum and Art Gallery in 2025, as well as exciting Cosplay events that energized local youth and pop-culture fans!

Looking ahead, we hope these cultural bonds continue to inspire new horizons—fostering educational exchanges, strengthening economic partnerships, and unlocking business opportunities between Japan and Botswana.

Today we travel back to Maun, August 2011, for an inspiring moment in the history of Japan-Botswana cooperation! 🇧🇼🤝🇯🇵

On 22 August 2011, the Embassy of Japan held an official handover ceremony for vocational skills training facilities and equipment at the Thuso Rehabilitation Centre in Maun.

Through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, a grant of P584,166.14 was provided to support the centre. The project funded the construction of a classroom and production storage, as well as necessary equipment, aiming to empower people with disabilities and promote sustainable local community development.

Remarkably, after the Grant Contract was signed in March 2011, the construction and procurement were completed in just five months! At the ceremony, attended by the then-Honourable Minister of Transport Mr. Frank Jack Ramsden, then-Charge d'Affaires Mr. NAKATOMI Hisashi commended the team's exceptional job performance and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the local community, dancers, musicians, and students who shared impressive poems.

Ke a leboga! P**a! P**a! P**a! 🌧️✨
