Operations: 3 research divisions and 3 supporting divisions
The National museum has a myriad of specialist disciplines
-100 monuments
-Monument development
-Salvage and documentation
-Built heritage
-Archaeological impact assessments licensing
-Monument development
-Artefact and heritage/monument identification and documentation
-Collection and storage of archaeological artefacts
-Research and curate exhibition
-Manage tour guides at all active monuments

Exists to collect, conserve research and disseminate information on a range of heritage issues for educational purposes, leisure and sustainability from its ethno-historic permanently stored collections. It currently has over 10000 ethnographic and more than 2000 historical artefacts representing cultures from across Botswana and a few from elsewhere. Units

-Restoration and treatment, Conservation and documentation of collections. (Tangible and intangible)
-Research and curate exhibition of collections for information dissemination
-Undertake Research on ethno-historical issues.
-Collections rental for utilisation by public

Natural history
-Zoology-Vertebrates-mammalian, taxidermy
-Botanical garden
-Identify, Research, document natural historical sites and artefacts
-Collection and storage of plant, animal specimens and other artefacts
-Manage a national herbarium
-Creation of sculptures or life size/small animal miniatures

4. Education and publicity
-Reference library
-Facilities management and rental
-Public relations and awareness
-Facilitate guided tours in the museum incl. in temporary exhibition
-Custodians of the extension program –Pitse ya naga
-Compilation of heritage sites Visitor and satisfaction statistics
-Production and compilation of the annual Newsletter-Zebra’s voice.
-Manage the reception area and security

-Capture artefacts in to photographic/video materials for safekeeping

💥Unleash the Power of Museums this international Museum day tomorrow on the 18th May 2022.

In honor of this special occasion, in line with the theme “Power of Museums”, The Department of National Museum and Monuments will be running a wonderful selection of events and exhibitions on the day.

It will be an excellent chance to surround yourself with some indigenous produced products, culture, recharge your soul with traditional music, Tswana cuisine and traditional brewed beer.

Stalls of indigenous produced products such as Pottery, German Print Dresses and many more will be available.
