Combined Elective Congress for Okavango East Constituency
Date: 16th May 2026
Venue: Xakao Village
Purpose: To build constituency structures for the Botswana National Front (BNF) Youth League, Women’s League, and Veterans Association.
1. Leadership Representation
The Congress was graced by top national officials from the three BNF leagues:
· Youth League: Represented by Secretary General, Cde Justin Sekaba.
· Women’s League: Represented by Women’s League President Cde Monica Molome, Organising Secretary Cde Kedibone Gloria Batlang, Secretary for Political Education Cde Gofaone Letlape, and Secretary for Health Cde Kereng Rabaji.
· Veterans Association: Represented by Secretary General Cde Victor Bontsi. Central Committee: National Organising Secretary Cde Johannes Motsamai.
2. Key Address to Okavango East Youth
Addressing the youth delegates, BNF Youth League Secretary General Cde Justin Sekaba described the role of a youth leader within the BNF as “a Militant Service.” He emphasised that leadership is not a position of privilege but one of sacrifice, discipline, and active engagement with the grassroots.
Cde Sekaba urged delegates to select their leaders based on integrity, stating:
“Choose leaders based on their work ethic, their connection to the ground, and their love for the people.”
He cautioned against electing individuals driven by personal ambition or factional interests, calling instead for unity in the collective pursuit of advancing the Okavango East Constituency. He closed with a passionate appeal for young people to close ranks and work together beyond the congress.
3. Outcomes
The Congress successfully elected new constituency executive committees for all three leagues. The elections were conducted peacefully, with national representatives overseeing the process to ensure transparency and adherence to the BNF constitution.
4. Conclusion
The Okavango East Constituency Combined Elective Congress achieved its objective of rebuilding and strengthening party structures from the ground up. The presence of senior national officials underscored the BNF’s commitment to grassroots democracy and organisational renewal. With new leadership in place, the constituency is now poised for mobilisation and service delivery advocacy leading into future electoral contests.
