LEGISLATIVE REVIEW COMMITTEE ENGAGES TOURISM SECTOR ON NEW VAT ACT

Botswana Legislative Review Committee, comprising officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS), yesterday engaged the tourism sector on the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Amendment Act (2025).

The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues affecting the tourism industry under the VAT (Amendment) Act, 2025 and explore practical solutions to address sector concerns.

Speaking during the meeting, BURS Acting Commissioner, Domestic Taxes and Committee member, Ms. Segametse Radibe-Michael, said the session was aimed at fostering dialogue and ensuring a common understanding on how the amended VAT legislation applies to tourism businesses. She emphasized the importance of engaging industry players to identify workable solutions to challenges arising from the new law.

For his part, Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Justice Ofentse, welcomed the engagement, noting that it provided an important opportunity for the industry to raise concerns and seek clarity on the new VAT provisions. He reiterated BTO’s commitment to supporting the tourism sector on policy and business matters while addressing issues that may affect business sustainability.
