The crisp early morning air of Saturday, 23 May 2026, carried more than just the rhythm of pounding feet and warm-up drills at Tlokweng.
It carried a powerful spirit of compassion, wellness and unity as hundreds of participants gathered before sunrise for the 4th Edition of the SOS Childrenβs Villages Annual Charity Run. Beginning in the refreshing hours of dawn, a time synonymous with renewed energy, healthy living and mental rejuvenation the event transformed into a vibrant celebration of fitness and humanity, all in support of vulnerable children and the future leaders of society.
Acting Commissioner Keneilwe Mokwenaotsile led a spirited Botswana Prison Service contingent of officers that proudly participated in the event. Demonstrating the commitment to community upliftment and social responsibility, the Prison Service sponsored the event with P20 000. This gesture illustrates the Serviceβs belief that meaningful partnerships and giving back to society remain central to nation-building.
Delivering welcome remarks, Kgosi Gaborone of Tlokweng commended participants, sponsors and organisers for embracing a cause aimed at restoring hope and dignity to children under the care of SOS Childrenβs Villages. He challenged runners and stakeholders alike to continue investing in acts of kindness and charity, reminding the gathering that children are the future custodians of the nation and deserve collective care, protection and opportunity.
Giving the vote of thanks, Tlokweng District Council Chairperson and Charity Run Ambassador, Hon. Ontiretse Bogatsu, wholeheartedly thanked all sponsors, participants and stakeholders whose collective support ensured the success of the event. She applauded the spirit of unity and generosity displayed throughout the morning, noting that such initiatives continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
The lively programme featured warm-up sessions, aerobics and entertainment that kept spirits high throughout the morning, with Fearless Fitness Club adding colour, energy and excitement through dynamic fitness activities. Distinguished guests, sponsors, charity ambassadors, chief runners and members of the business community also graced the event.
The charity run was categorised into 5km, 10km and 21km races, providing an inclusive platform for both seasoned athletes and recreational fitness enthusiasts to participate in the noble cause.
As the sun slowly rose over the village of Tlokweng, the event stood as a glowing reminder that sometimes the strongest stride a society can take is one made together for the benefit of its children.
