The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is pleased to announce the appointment of ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐œ๐š ๐”๐ง๐š๐ฆ๐ข ๐‹๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ž as Interim Chairperson of the Womenโ€™s Wing. Consequently, Ms. Lesole will sit in the Central Committee as the Womenโ€™s representative.

Former Councillor Lesole is an experienced and loyal BDP member who has previously served as Gaborone Mayor, Womenโ€™s Wing Deputy Chairperson, amongst others. Her experience and skills are expected to continue positively to advancing women representation on on a transitional basis pending the election of a substantive committee and towards evolution into a Womenโ€™s League, not Wing.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) joins the United Nations and the world in kicking off this yearโ€™s commemoration of the ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐€๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐š๐ ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ ๐–๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง & ๐†๐ข๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฌ. This yearโ€™s global theme for this commemoration by the United Nations is: โ€œUNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girlsโ€. This theme highlights a growing and urgent issue: technology-facilitated gender-based violence.

Digital spaces are now part of everyday life, where we work, learn, connect, and share. But for many women and girls, especially those who are assuming leadership positions in our communities and those who are young, visible, or outspoken, these spaces can also become unsafe.

Digital violence includes online harassment, cyberbullying, stalking, image-based abuse, doxxing, hate speech, and the non-consensual sharing or manipulation of images. These experiences cause real-world harm and affect womenโ€™s participation, freedom of expression, mental health, and safety.

In the Pacific, as internet access grows, digital violence is emerging alongside traditional forms of gender-based violence. Social media misuse, online scams targeting women, and the spread of harmful gender stereotypes online mirror and often amplify the same power imbalances and discrimination that exist offline.
