The Tawana Land Board Full Board meeting will resume on Monday, 7 September 2026, and continue through 18 September 2026.

During the meeting, the Board will deliberate on various land administration and management matters, including:

-𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Board to consider and make decisions on these matters in accordance with the applicable land administration processes and procedures.

𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗙𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀.

The Director of Veterinary Services in the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture Dr Kobedi Segale,accompanied by the Foot and Mouth technical team and Mr Luke Motlhatlhedi who was standing in for Kgatleng Council Secretary toured the animal disease control fence in areas around Ramotlabaki ,Dibete ,Phala camp and Sikwane today to view and assess progress on its ongoing maintenance and construction.

Even though there has been some impressive progress in the fencing initiative workers have acknowledged encountering challenges such as shortage of man power, gum poles, cutting of the newly constructed fence, amongst others.

When briefing the delegation the Kgatleng Acting District Agriculture Coordinator Mr Boitshepo Nape and Mr Ishmael Merafe , the fence construction supervisor said they were concerned that some members of the public were maliciously cutting the fence for trespassing, yet there are some gates which they could use.

In addition Mr Raphael Ramatu, acting deputy director of GFM and head of operations and logistics at National Emergency Operations Centre-Foot and Mouth explained that the area from Dibete Gate to Notwane Bridge has a fence that is intact and maintained well, and others such as Notwane Bridge to Phala Camp (Dikgatlhong) ‘s34 km
that needs maintenance,Phala Camp to Sikwane has been debushed and graded and awaiting construction commencement

Mr Ramatu concluded his presentation by saying that the Phala Camp fence towards Ramotlabaki is also underway.

Dr Kobedi Segale summed up the tour by encouraging all those involved in fence construction and maintenance to continue doing their best while appealing to the public to continue abiding by foot and mouth animal movement, vaccination schedules and kraaling animals .

𝐃𝐏𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐀 𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓.

Deputy Permanent Secretary,Arable Farming, Mr Kenatshele Dialwa, has called on Batswana to embrace reading and lifelong learning, saying knowledge remains one of the country’s greatest assets in driving national development, innovation and personal growth.

Delivering the keynote address at the launch of Through the Eye of the Needle, authored by Rev. Afitlhile Bonang Shepard, Mr Dialwa said reading sharpens the mind, broadens perspectives and equips individuals to make informed decisions. He noted that a disciplined and informed mind is essential in developing leaders, problem-solvers and citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to Botswana’s development.

Mr Dialwa cautioned against what he described as “shallow thinking”, warning that an idle and unguarded mind can become “the devil’s playground.” He encouraged Batswana to cultivate a culture of reading, stressing that education extends beyond the classroom and that continuous learning remains critical in shaping both individual success and national progress.

Meanwhile, Rev. Afitlhile Bonang Shepard described Through the Eye of the Needle as more than a book, saying it is a reflection of his life’s journey through adversity, faith and restoration. Sharing his personal story of growing up in a broken home, enduring years of uncertainty and eventually witnessing the restoration of his family after more than two decades, Rev. Shepard said the publication is a testimony that difficult beginnings do not define one’s future.

He encouraged readers to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, emphasising that education, perseverance and faith can transform lives. Quoting Maya Angelou, “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated,” Rev. Shepard urged people to refuse to let life’s challenges become the final chapter of their story, expressing hope that the book will inspire others to pursue purpose, embrace hope and believe that restoration is always possible.

𝐊𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭-𝐚𝐧𝐝-𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞.

Residents of Kole village in the Charleshill District have expressed concern over the severe impact of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) on their livelihoods and livestock businesses.

The residents convened at the Kgotla to receive an update on the FMD situation. Welcoming the community, Kgosi Rrapose Moholo said the village was badly affected by the disease, noting that farmers were currently unable to trade their livestock. He appealed to the Minister to review the provision of livestock feed and consider subsidies to cushion small scale farmers from the economic impact of the disease.

Briefing the gathering, the Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hon. Motsamai Motsamai said the country had been besieged by the contagious disease, which had disrupted the cattle industry, livelihoods and families. He noted that the value of cattle had been severely affected by FMD, resulting in significant losses of wealth for farmers.

Hon. Motsamai urged the community to safeguard their area against FMD by strictly adhering to all established disease control protocols so that the area remains a green zone. He said reluctance by some community members to follow the prescribed measures was contributing to delays in containing and ending the spread of the disease.

He appealed to the community to work closely with the government and relevant authorities to bring the disease under control, emphasising that this would allow cattle trading to resume and contribute to the recovery of livelihoods and the wider economy.

The Assistant Minister further informed the gathering that the government was working tirelessly to complete the containment fence, which is expected to help control cattle movement and consequently reduce the spread of FMD. He said the fence is expected to be completed in phases by the end of September 2026.

2. While investigations are ongoing for 2-3 weeks, farmers and stakeholders are informed of the attached revised movement protocol. The main changes in the revised protocol include prohibiting movement in zone 11 excluding the containment zone and restricting movement in zones 8, 9 and 10, 3.
