BOTSWANA HEIGHTENS SURVEILLANCE AMID EBOLA AND HANTAVIRUS CONCERNS
The Ministry of Health has intensified public health surveillance following recent Ebola outbreaks linked to the Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, as well as growing global concern over Hantavirus cases associated with a South Atlantic cruise expedition. Although Botswana has not recorded any confirmed or suspected cases of either disease, health authorities caution that the country remains vulnerable due to regional travel and trade connections. In response, enhanced screening measures have been introduced at all points of entry, including mandatory health declarations for travelers arriving from affected areas.
The interview will explore Botswanaโs preparedness to detect and respond to potential imported cases, ongoing public awareness efforts, and measures being implemented to protect public health.
