Security enhanced in Letlhakane with new police station
The Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, His Honour Slumber Tsogwane has urged residents of Letlhakane and surrounding villages to work hand-in-hand with the police in the fight against crime as the police would not make it without community support.
Tsogwane said this during the official opening of New Letlhakane Police Station where he expressed concern about the increase of violent and intrusive crimes such as murder, r**e, defilement and home invasions among others.
“You need to actively participate in community policing and conduct researches on evolving crimes to keep yourselves updated”, His Honour Tsogwane encouraged the community.
He further indicated that the Government would continue to facilitate Botswana Police Service (BPS) with good infrastructure, modern technology and advance resources to help improve their service delivery.
“The New Letlhakane Police Station is a full fledged facility designed to offer comprehensive policing services to the satisfaction of local communities and customers therefore, I urge you to utilise it”, he added.
Commissioner of Police, Ms Dinah Marathe explained that Letlhakane and its policing area has continued to grow together with crime rates hence the need for another police station to relieve the old one. She indicated that the area provided services to areas such as Rakops, Mosu, Mopipi and Toromoja among others which were too many for one police station.
New Letlhakane Police Station consists of reception area, identification suite, interview room, child friendly centre, records management, custody suits among others. There are also thirty-six (36) houses for police officers which include twenty-eight (28) low-cost houses.
Ms Marathe stated that the facility have play grounds which would be open for use to both the police officers and the community.
