Mmadikolo,
What transpired the other day during the University of Botswana student elections was deeply unsettling. The violence, ballot tampering, and intimidation especially the assault of students and candidates by bouncers should never be part of a democratic process. To those who are still in shock or dealing with trauma from what they witnessed, please know that your pain is valid, and you are not alone.
Despite the chaos, including the unfortunate incident at Moghul where the ballot box for Bar and Canteen was broken and ballots were destroyed, I remain committed to justice and transparency. As the incoming Minister of Bar and Canteen, I was affected but not deterred.
To those questioning the results, I hear you. The matter will be pursued through the appropriate channels. I kindly ask the relevant electoral authorities and university leadership as to why this serious issue of the broken ballot box and destroyed votes not been formally addressed or clarified? Students deserve answers, and clarity is essential for restoring trust in the electoral process.
To my supporters, thank you. Your unwavering belief in me has meant everything. I want you to know that I will continue to stand, stronger than ever, in the next elections and I am bringing my cabinet with me. This is not the end, but the beginning of a renewed fight for fairness.
Let’s move forward together, with unity, courage, and a demand for accountability.
Finally, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every student who participated in this election, despite the challenges. Congratulations to Moono Wa Baithuti for their victory especially to Kudakwao Tafa (Skud), my worthy opponent. I respect your win and look forward to a term where we all serve the student body with integrity.
