Princess Marina Hospital has received a donation of essential medical consumables from BOMAID to support the delivery of healthcare services, particularly within the Breast and Endocrine Unit.
The donation comprises 480 biopsy needles and 576 Portovac drains, which will assist healthcare workers in providing essential diagnostic and surgical services to patients.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, BOMAID Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moraki Makgosana, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in supporting Government initiatives and strengthening the country's healthcare system.
Mr. Makgosana commended the Breast and Endocrine Unit for the excellent work it continues to provide to patients and expressed appreciation to Princess Marina Hospital for giving BOMAID the opportunity to contribute to the facility.
"We all have a role to play in supporting Government initiatives. We appreciate the opportunity given to us by Princess Marina Hospital to contribute towards improving healthcare services," said Mr. Makgosana.
The Assistant Minister of Health, Honourable Lawrence Ookeditse, expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that the healthcare sector continues to face challenges, particularly with the availability of essential medical consumables.
He emphasized that while the Government places confidence in Princess Marina Hospital and its healthcare workers, the absence of necessary consumables makes it difficult for health professionals to provide timely and effective care, which can have serious consequences for patients.
Honourable Ookeditse called on the private sector to continue supporting the country during challenging times and to strengthen partnerships with Government in addressing healthcare needs.
He further acknowledged the dedication of healthcare workers, noting that messages of encouragement, support and appreciation can strengthen their morale and commitment to serving patients.
The Assistant Minister also highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention, particularly in addressing diseases associated with lifestyle factors. He noted that the availability of essential medical consumables is critical for early diagnosis and timely intervention.
He encouraged stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, noting that partnerships and joint efforts could contribute significantly towards addressing gaps in the healthcare system and improving patient outcomes.
