Community Development and Social Services Chairperson, Hon. Councillor Lamodimo Ditamara, accompanied by the Deputy Council Secretary – Operations, Ms. Ndidza Molatole, and Principal Social Welfare Officer II Mr. Gwisani Tubute, addressed Mokubilo leadership, community members and other stakeholders.

The engagement focused on raising awareness, educate and sensitise the community on the escalating cases of child defilement, child neglect and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The initiative underscores the importance of collective responsibility in protecting children, safeguarding vulnerable members of society and promoting a safe and supportive community. Through continued collaboration between leadership, stakeholders and the public, communities are encouraged to speak out, report abuse and work together towards ending all forms of violence and neglect.

IN MEMORY OF THE LATE MS BOETELO BONGI ABOFILWE

Boteti District Council joins family, friends, and the wider community in mourning the passing of the late Ms Boetelo Bongi Abofilwe, an employee of the Council.

On Friday, 16 October 2026, the Council hosted a memorial service in honour of Ms Abofilwe to celebrate her life, reflect on her contribution to the organisation, and pay tribute to her memory. The service allowed colleagues and community members to come together in remembrance and solidarity with her loved ones during this difficult time.

Ms Abofilwe was laid to rest this morning, Sunday, 18 October 2026, at her home village of Mosu in the Boteti District.

Boteti District Council extends its heartfelt condolences to the Abofilwe family, relatives, friends and all those who knew and worked with her. The Council acknowledges the pain of this loss and stands in solidarity with her loved ones as they navigate this difficult period of grief.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her family find strength and comfort in the cherished memories of her life.

May her legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

BOTETI DISTRICT COUNCIL RAISES AWARENESS ON BREAST CANCER

Boteti District Council this morning conducted a breast cancer awareness initiative aimed at educating and sensitising employees on the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection and timely medical intervention.

The awareness event was held under the theme “Every Story Is Unique, Every Journey Matters,” which highlights the individual experiences of people affected by breast cancer and the importance of compassion, support and understanding throughout their journeys.

The initiative sought to encourage individuals to take an active role in their health by learning about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, practising breast self-awareness and seeking medical attention when they notice unusual changes. It also emphasised the importance of regular health checks and early diagnosis in improving treatment outcomes.

Through this initiative, Boteti District Council reaffirmed the importance of health education in promoting informed decisions and encouraging people to overcome fear, stigma and misconceptions surrounding breast cancer.

The theme served as a reminder that every person affected by breast cancer has a unique experience, and that each journey deserves respect, dignity and support. It further underscored the need for families, workplaces and communities to create supportive environments where individuals can openly discuss their health concerns and access the care they need.

Boteti District Council recognises that raising awareness is an important step towards building a healthier and more informed community. By promoting open conversations about breast cancer, the Council aims to contribute to a culture of prevention, early detection and collective responsibility for health and well-being.
