Lucy Ditoro was born and bred in Mmadinare , she did her Primary school at Anderson Primary School and scooped an A. Lucy then went to Lebogang Junior Secondary School which is in Selibe Phikwe.

Lucy said she had little time for leisure she dedicated all her time to her studies because she knew attaining first class is a task that is never easy but with hard work and determination it would be possible. ‘I would find myself at times having my dinner and handling books at once because I felt like I would be wasting time if I close my books to eat. ’ I am not surprised that I managed to get a Merit because I was sleeping for only 5 hours.’ I would study from 8pm until 1am then I woke up at 5 am to get ready for school.I also utilized afternoon studies at school.

My mother often told me I was born a bright child that was not enough I had to make sure I complement my smartness with hard work and revision. My mother was forever cheering me on because she believed in me so I had no choice but to deliver good results to make her happy.’

Lucy’s mother Ms. Ditoro said ‘ I was so happy I could not sleep when the results came out, I promised my daughter before she wrote that if she ever got a Merit I will make a big surprise party for her unfortunately due to certain circumstances like being a single parents I am still looking for money.

With the little I had, I made sure I hired a taxi for Lucy so that she does not to walk long distances with her heavy bag. I have witnessed other children complaining about how tired they are because they walk a long distance thus affecting their concentration and activeness in class. Lastly i always told my daughter and will continue teaching her the difference between what is right and wrong and about the transition of teenage hood hood into adolescence stage. One wrong move into a different direction will affect her for the rest of her life and I would not want that for my daughter who I love so much.’

Lucy mentioned that she formed a study group with her peers to show her seriousness none of those pupils were her her friends because she said friends are too playful and they loose concentration fast.‘I would like to encourage other pupils to set aside activities that are not important and just focus on school because education is the key to success.’ Lucy said that without fail she would like to be a cardiologist when she is all grown up.

Motheo Unasimba Boitumelo comes from Mmadinare village and he did his Primary school at Phethu Mphoeng Primary School and obtained grade A. He only left his village to do his junior certificate at Selibe Phikwe at Phatsimo Junior Secondary School. Motheo mentioned during his interview that ''I would not be the person i am today if it wasn’t for my mother, she gave me everything I wanted and needed and I will forever be indebted to her. I also made sure I pulled my side of rope by drawing up a study guide, group work and revising past exam papers.

Weekends were never an excuse to take a break from studying, the first thing I did when I woke up on Saturday I took a bath and did my minimal chores then took my bag that had all my study materials and headed to school to meet with others for our group sessions. I had to work hard because my mother promised to get me a new smart phone because nothing comes for free.''

Motheo stated that he had minimal distractions but the one that was challenging to him was because his mother who is a teacher was moving a lot and sometimes when they unpack some of his study papers would miss or get lost.

‘ I would like to encourage and be an inspiration to all the students around that education is better when you have a dream that propels towards your future.’ He also encouraged parents not to force their dreams or careers on to their kids because there are higher chances of them not performing well or to their highest best.

During the interview Motheo's mother Ms Samboko who is a teacher said ‘I was really happy when the results came out because I had no doubt in my mind that my son would get anything less than first class. I gave my son a lecture that he should continue studying hard and aim for the stars, learning never stops no matter where you go in life.’

‘Besides studying I enjoy reading fiction novels and playing football but only to refresh my mind for a short period of time.My favorite meal is Phaleche (maize meal) and Nama (meat)’ Motheo happily shared that when he grows up he wishes to become a Neurosurgeon because he has always been inquisitive on how the human brain works.
