From the Roof Rack

From the Roof Rack For us, and our many assistants, students, and assorted co-conspirators, the roof rack has become a home-from-home.

During more than twenty years of carnivore research we have spent a considerable amount of time sitting on, sleeping on, and occasionally hanging on for dear life to the tops of our various field cars. From the Roof Rack was created as part of a project currently being developed, building on the considerable experience of the four founding members. In the next few months we plan to register an NGO

, with the goal of conserving carnivores in Botswana. In the meantime we are reaching out to all the stakeholders with an interest in protecting the carnivores of Botswana. Introducing the team: Christiaan and Hanlie Winterbach have worked together for more than twenty years and have amassed a vast amount of information on the lion populations of Botswana, along with an impressive array of friends and contacts across the region. Gail Potgieter and Rob Thomson joined the team after working in Namibia, and bring with them a detailed understanding of the issues of human-carnivore conflict, and a wealth of technical knowledge vital to good conservation practice in the 21st century. Together we are determined to ensure that large carnivore species can continue to thrive in their natural environments.
