Ditshukudu Village recently held the 2nd Annual Farmerโs Day, a Community-driven initiative led by youth group Magakwa-a-Ditshukudu under the Mentorship of Ms. Constance Paledi-Mokotedi. This event was Organized by Ditshukudu Farmers Committee and Ministry of Agriculture, the event focused on equipping Farmers with practical knowledge in climate-smart farming, crop production, and livestock management.
The programme featured a farm visit where participants received hands-on training in potato Farming, cultivation, land preparation, planting, irrigation, pest management, and harvesting techniques. Avocado farmer Mr. Kebonyeng Seroto shared best practices in crop care and irrigation, while fruit tree farmer Mrs. Pheto highlighted the potential of apple production in Botswana and encouraged Batswana to reduce reliance on imported fruits by venturing into fruit tree farming.
Delivering the keynote address, Acting Kweneng District Agricultural Coordinator Mr. Onne Monamisi emphasized the importance of adopting modern practices such as irrigation and soil fertilization to boost yields. He also cautioned farmers about the ongoing threat of Foot and Mouth Disease, urging vigilance and adherence to security measures put in place to avoid the spread of FMD.
When giving closing remarks, Kweneng District Council Chairman Hon. Ontefetse Rankhibidu commended the initiative for promoting food security, self-sufficiency, and community development. He stressed the importance of sustaining such programmes, particularly in the current economic climate, where agriculture remains a vital pathway to resilience and income generation.
