June 16 Commemoration Held at Kagiso Customary Court
Selebi Phikwe today joined the rest of Africa in commemorating June 16 under the theme: "Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa."
The event brought together community members, government officials, learners, and various stakeholders to reflect on the importance of safeguarding children's rights and promoting access to essential services that support their health, dignity, and development.
Delivering the welcome remarks, Kgosi Bathaedi Mponwane welcomed attendees and emphasized the collective responsibility of ensuring that every child has access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
The keynote address was delivered by Senior Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Ookeditse Gabothuse, who encouraged communities, institutions, and stakeholders to work together in protecting and advancing the welfare of children. He underscored the importance of investing in water, sanitation, and hygiene services as a foundation for children's well-being and future success.
Giving the closing remarks, CDSS Committee Chairperson, Hon. Thabologo Sethuba, expressed appreciation to all participants, organizers, and partners who contributed to the success of the commemoration. She called upon everyone to continue championing initiatives that improve the lives of children and ensure that no child is left behind.
The June 16 Commemoration serves as a reminder of the vital role that communities, institutions, and governments play in creating a safer, healthier, and more inclusive future for every child.
