On World Day Against Child Labour, we join the global call under the theme “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.”

Utilizing the powerful symbolism of a red card in sports, this campaign sends a clear message: child labour is unacceptable and has no place in our communities because every child has the right to learn, play, dream, and grow up in a safe environment free from exploitation.

The campaign also recognizes the connection between child labour and adult poverty, emphasizing that fair wages, decent work, and sustainable livelihoods for adults are essential to preventing the exploitation of children.

As we mark this day, let us accelerate efforts to ensure access to education, strengthen child protection systems, enforce laws, and create opportunities that allow families to thrive, ensuring every child can enjoy the childhood they deserve.

Motivation Monday

The hard days may not feel great in the moment, but they often shape us the most. The hard days teach resilience, gratitude and strength we didn’t know we had. So, keep going! Brighter days always seem to find their way back.

Feature Friday

Did you know that Belize has a Protection of Witness Act 2022, which came into effect in February 2023? — It provides important safeguards for vulnerable and intimidated witnesses participating in criminal proceedings.

The Act allows courts to implement special measures to enhance a witness’s ability to testify, reduce re-traumatization, and address fears of intimidation or retaliation, while maintaining the accused’s right to a fair trial.

These special measures may include:
• Visual confrontation - Screens to prevent direct visual contact with the accused.
• Evidentiary innovations - Video-recorded evidence to reduce repetitive testimony.
• Privacy safeguards - Cleaning the courtroom during sensitive testimony.
• Cross-examination reform - Preventing an accused from personally cross-examining a victim.

Special measures may be granted to minors (under 18), vulnerable adults and witnesses experiencing fear, distress, intimidation, or risk of retaliation.

The Act also provides for Anonymity Orders, which can protect a witness’s identity during investigations and criminal proceedings.

By strengthening witness protection, Belize continues to promote a safer and more accessible justice system for all.

Motivation Monday

Some days are harder than others and that’s okay. Learning to give yourself the same kindness and patience you give others can change everything. Take today as a reminder that you are worthy of love, especially from yourself.

To close off our wellness campaign for this Mental Health Awareness Month, the Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Kevin Bernard, shared with us a powerful reminder about the importance of making time to connect with family, embrace joy, and truly live in the moment amidst life’s many responsibilities. His message reflects something many of us often forget: caring for our mental health begins when we allow ourselves to slow down and appreciate the people and moments that bring us peace.

In a world that constantly pushes us to do more, achieve more, and move faster, there is something deeply freeing about simply being present. Sometimes, the greatest act of self-care is choosing connection over pressure, laughter over stress, and moments of joy over endless demands. It is in these moments that we restore not only our minds but also our sense of balance, purpose, and happiness.

As this campaign comes to an end, let us carry this message with us beyond Mental Health Awareness Month. Life is happening now, so don’t wait for tomorrow to prioritize your well-being, spend time with those you love, or do the things that restore your spirit. The time to live fully, care for yourself, and embrace joy is TODAY.

Motivation Monday

It’s important to know it is okay to need things, even if you can’t fully explain why. Rest, distance, support, whatever it is, it matters. You’re not “too much” for needing space or care. Listening to yourself is part of healing, not something to feel guilty about. Give yourself permission to respond to what you need right now.

Wellness Wednesdays

As we continue to observe Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that, too often, we wait for the time to be right to slow down and truly enjoy life, when in reality, some of the most meaningful moments are found in the simple things we can choose to do today.

Mr. Ronald Stuart, SCLAN Trainer for the “Engaging Men & Boys to Advance Gender Equality and Help Prevent Gender-Based Violence” Program, shares with us that caring for our mental health can simply be found in embracing a sunrise, listening to the sound of the ocean, or finding peace in the quiet of a new day.

Through both his example and his work as an SCLAN trainer, he embraces the importance of making space for the things that support our wellbeing, calm our minds, and reconnect us with the moments that truly matter.

Wellness Wednesdays

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that wellness often begins with the simple decision to pause and make time for ourselves today.

Hon. Valerie Woods, Speaker of the House of Representatives, shares how prioritizing even a short walk brings her peace of mind, calmness, and clarity. Her message is a great reminder that self-care can often be found in the quiet moments we intentionally create for ourselves amidst the demands of daily life.

In a world that constantly urges us to keep moving, walking can become more than exercise; it can serve as an opportunity to clear our minds and help us revive our wellness in meaningful ways.

Therefore, let us always remember that whether it is a walk, a conversation, or simply a moment of silence, making space for the things that nurture our mental health matters.
