SERVICE BEYOND THE SEA.

Over the past two days, members of the Belize Coast Guard's 1st and 2nd Fleet have been giving back to the community, supporting UB Academy Preschool as it prepares to welcome its young students for the upcoming school year.

Our personnel put their skills and manpower to work by painting, installing floor covering, landscaping, pruning trees, and assisting with other improvements to help create a welcoming environment for students. This initiative reflects our belief that service extends beyond maritime operations and that investing our time and effort in our communities is an investment in Belize's future.

Special recognition goes to LCDR David Ayala, 2nd Fleet Commander, for his leadership and initiative in coordinating this effort, and to the men and women of the 1st and 2nd Fleets who answered the call to serve.

NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OF MARITIME TECHNOLOGY

The Belize Coast Guard recently participated in a regional seminar on alternative fuels and emerging maritime technologies in Trinidad and Tobago, delivered by the World Maritime University in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization and MTCC Caribbean. Belize was represented by the Belize Coast Guard and Belize Port Authority, with PO3 America Choc of the Training and Doctrine Command representing the BCG.
The seminar explored emerging technologies including ammonia, methanol, hydrogen, battery systems, and carbon capture and storage. As the global maritime sector continues to evolve, developing knowledge in these areas strengthens our ability to understand emerging technologies, anticipate future requirements, and contribute meaningfully to Belize's maritime development.
The Belize Coast Guard commends PO3 Choc for representing the Service and recognizes the Training and Doctrine Command for its continued commitment to professional development and building a knowledgeable, adaptable, and future-ready Coast Guard.

BUILDING CAPABILITY. ENHANCING READINESS. 🇧🇿⚓

The Belize Coast Guard today marked the successful completion of the Outboard Motor Maintenance (OMM) Course, delivered by a United States Coast Guard Mobile Training Team. The course brought together 11 Belize Coast Guard and 4 Belize Defence Force personnel, strengthening technical capability across both services.

Through classroom instruction and hands-on training, participants developed practical skills in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, electrical and cooling systems, and basic repairs for the outboard engines that power our vessels. Building this expertise within our ranks strengthens equipment reliability, reduces dependence on external technical support, and ultimately contributes to greater operational readiness at sea.

The Belize Coast Guard extends its appreciation to the United States Coast Guard and its instructors for their expertise, continued partnership, and investment in strengthening Belize's maritime capability. We also recognize the Training and Doctrine Command for its coordination and continued efforts to deliver training opportunities that strengthen the professional and operational capabilities of our personnel.

Congratulations to all participants on successfully completing the course.

PROTECTING TODAY. PRESERVING TOMORROW. 🇧🇿🌊

While most Belizeans were asleep, Belize Coast Guard personnel and Belize Audubon Society Rangers were on patrol protecting our marine resources. In the early hours of Wednesday, 12 August, a joint patrol within the Half Moon Caye Marine Protected Area intercepted a vessel and identified fisheries violations involving protected lobster stocks. Four fishermen were subsequently charged with fisheries offences.

Every enforcement action matters. Protecting undersized, soft-shell and egg-bearing lobster today helps preserve tomorrow's fishery and the livelihoods that depend on it. The Belize Coast Guard commends the 2nd Fleet Marine Enforcement Unit for its vigilance, commitment, and continued presence on our waters, and thanks the Belize Audubon Society Rangers for their continued partnership in safeguarding Belize's marine resources.

Protecting Belize's waters. Protecting Belize's future.

SERVICE BEYOND THE SEA

Last week, members of the Belize Coast Guard's Sector Central and Caye Caulker Patrol joined forces with the Caye Caulker Council to support sargassum removal efforts within the community.

For the Belize Coast Guard, service extends beyond maritime operations. By contributing our personnel and manpower alongside community partners, we continue to support the preservation of our coastal environment, strengthen the communities we serve, and demonstrate our commitment to being a reliable partner to the Belizean people.

Special recognition goes to LT Sarah Arzu, Sector Central Commander, and her team for their steadfast leadership, initiative, and commitment in organizing and coordinating this community effort. Their actions demonstrate the type of leadership we encourage across the Belize Coast Guard—taking initiative, building partnerships, and making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.

BUILDING TECHNICAL CAPACITY. STRENGTHENING OPERATIONAL READINESS.

The Belize Coast Guard is currently undertaking a two week Outboard Motor Maintenance Course delivered by a U.S. Coast Guard Mobile Training Team, with participation from Belize Coast Guard personnel and members of the Belize Defence Force Special Boat Unit.

Combining technical instruction with hands-on training, the course is developing the expertise required to conduct preventive maintenance, routine servicing, and electrical diagnostics on the outboard engines that power our vessels. Building this capability within our own ranks means greater equipment reliability, improved asset availability, and increased operational readiness.

This training also reflects the value of strong partnerships and joint capacity development. We thank the U.S. Coast Guard for its continued support and welcome the participation of our Belize Defence Force counterparts as we strengthen the technical capabilities necessary to keep our maritime forces ready for operations.

BUILDING CONFIDENCE. TEACHING LIFE-SAVING SKILLS. STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES.

The Belize Coast Guard, in partnership with the Belize Police Department's Community Policing Program, successfully concluded the annual SWIM PRO Summer Swimming Program, reaching 50 children during a week of structured swimming and water-safety instruction. By the end of the program, 45 participants had developed the skills and confidence to swim independently—a meaningful achievement that can contribute to their safety around Belize's waterways.
Led by six trained Belize Coast Guard swimming instructors, SWIM PRO demonstrates how the skills and professionalism within our security forces can make a difference beyond our operational duties. Through initiatives such as this, the Belize Coast Guard remains committed to youth development, water safety, and building stronger relationships with the communities we serve.
